Web Services Middleware: All Grown Up!

Google Tech Talks November 8, 2006 ABSTRACT The term Web services carries the connotation of (slowly) doing RPC over SOAP. While many original SOAP toolkits supported and promoted that model (including Apache SOAP which I created), that is not at all what Web services are about. Apache's history with Web services has seen three generations of efforts: Apache SOAP, Apache Axis and now Apache Axis2. Axis2 is fundamentally different: instead of treating XML as a hot potato that must be replaced with a language structure immediately, it treats XML lovingly and offers a very clean processing model for XML. Why middleware is the key to a successful gov 2.0

Max Ogden is a developer, open government and CouchDB enthusiast from Portland, OR. One of his recent projects, PDXAPI, is a developer interface to civic geo datasets in Portland, OR. Max recently accepted a position as a Code for America fellow for their inaugural 2011 Code for America fellowship program. Embracing Tim O'Reilly's concept of 'Government as a Platform' is easier said than done. I want to share some of my lessons learned on actually building the 'platform'. My talk will include methods and best practices for both developers and non-developers to refer to when negotiating open government data contracts with local governments.

NetUP's IPTV Middleware includes two main parts - the Middleware server and STB Client, a native application developed in C++ loaded into an IP set-top box. Such a technology, which is often referred to as rich client IPTV middleware allows to achieve a much better perfomance of the user interface in comparison to any Web-based IPTV middleware, which is especially important in case of HD TV or HD video.
