Natural Childbirth With Midwives

Induced at 40+4 by AROM due to high BP. In the hospital with midwives. Daddy got to catch! Baby was born posterior so I had a ton of extra pain and back labour. Only 2nd degree tearing this time and no episiotomy! I had a shot of oxytocin after to help my uterus contract since I have a history of postpartum hemorrage. It wasnt in my plan to push while laying on my back but that is just how I ended up. I was 7cm just minutes before this video was recorded. Went from 7cm to pushing in less then 10mins. Haylee was born after just 3 pushes.

Ina May Gaskin, the godmother of modern midwifery, and her husband, Stephen Gaskin, founder of Plenty International, talked to Lisa Reagan in Washington, DC, in July 2011 about birth, midwives, The Farm, and being "Technicolor Amish". This memorable discussion between Ina May and Stephen, who have been together for more than 30 years, includes Stephen sharing his advice to men to "act like knights" and "pledge your sword to a lady. Protect those who need protecting." Ina May and Stephen remember the trucks on The Farm, why midwives are the best drivers and conversations with international physicians who have advocated for natural birth as a human right. Ina May was presented the Right Livelihood Award in Sweden in December 2011. Stephen was the first recipient of the award in 1980. The award is considered to be the "alternative Nobel prize". Midwives Deliver a Personal Experience

When Suzanne Blaney found out she was pregnant, she didn't call a doctor. Instead she made an appointment with a midwife. "Once we found out we were going to have a baby we researched a little bit and just knew that that was the way, we used a midwife." Two children later, she's happy with her decision. Suzanne still uses a midwife for her feminine health care. "Even though I'm not pregnant or planning on getting pregnant I just use them as my annual checkups." Zoe Sheppard is a certified nurse midwife with Lee Memorial Health System. With a Master's degree in nursing and additional coursework in midwifery, she's trained and ready to serve her patients. "We deliver babies, we take care of patients from the very first day they know they're pregnant throughout the entire course of pregnancy. We deliver their babies, we take care of them postpartum," says Sheppard. The role of midwife is taking on new status. It used to be a low-cost way to ensure good care, primarily fond in inner city clinics. But like pregnancy itself, the role has grown and expanded. "Within the last twenty years midwifery has really grown among the educated parents who want to have more of a role and more of a say in their care, often will seek a nurse midwife. We really want to empower these families with the information that they need to make good decisions for a good pregnancy," says Sheppard. His daughter, one of the first modern water-birthers, was in her late twenties when the following incident happened. Charkovsky and his team had taken a woman to the Black Sea in Israel for an underwater birth. In two feet of water, preparing for the birth, suddenly three dolphins approached, pushed everyone out of the way and took over. They scanned the length of her body (with sonar?), which somehow relaxed the mother and child and gave birth with no pain or fear. Apparently all the human midwives were pretty shocked though. This opened up the new practice of 'Dolphin mid-wivery' which may sound strange, but fits in with the new breed of super-children that are currently coming in to existence. For some reason, dolphins are attracted to pregnant women and young children and as most people are aware, the dolphins can also help heal people with mental and psychological problems.
