Petrol to cost Rs 7.54/litre more, highest ever hike - NewsX

In the steepest ever increase, petrol rates were today raised by a massive Rs 7.54 per litre, the first hike in rates in six months. Petrol price in Delhi has been hiked by Rs .54 per litre to Rs 73.18 a litre with effect from midnight tonight, state-owned oil companies said in separate but identical press announcements. This is the steepest hike in petrol price ever, the previous high being Rs 5 per litre. Oil firms had twice raised rates by Rs 5 per litre - on May 15, 2011 when prices in Delhi were hiked from Rs 58.37 a litre to Rs 63.37 per litre and on May 24, 2008 when rates were raised to Rs 50.56 a litre. The government had decontrolled petrol price in June 2010 but rates were last increased on November 4 last year. This despite oil price rising by 14.5 per cent and 3.2 per cent fall in value of rupee against the US dollar.

City of joy erupts in celebration as IPL winner Kolkata Knight Riders take out a victory march. King Khan gets heroes welcome in Kolkata. The victorious IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders will be felicitated today by the West Bengal Chief Minister at Eden gardens. Ahead of the felicitation the KKR team will be taken in a procession with the IPL trophy from Hazra crossing in South Kolkata to Writers Building, a distance of six kilometres, where the Chief Minister would greet them, accompanied by team owner Shah Rukh Khan. Since the entire programme has been announced in a short notice, senior police officers were apprehensive about the security, especially because a host of celebrities, including Bollywood and Tollywood stars, will participate in the victory rally. Petrol shortage in Chennai to end today: Jayalalithaa - NewsX

As Chennai reeled under shortage of petrol and diesel for another day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa reviewed the situation and said the crisis would end today with the arrival of additional fuel. After chairing a high-level meeting, Jayalalithaa said three ships carrying 67000 kilo litres of diesel and petrol from Kochi arrived at Chennai port this afternoon. Efforts were being made to distribute this stock to the bunks of Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, she said in a statement. Disproportionate assets case: CBI seeks Jagan's custody - NewsX

Trouble continues to mount for YSR chief Jagan Mohan Reddy in the alleged disproportionate assets case. Jagan who was arrested on Sunday after being grilled for three days in a row, has been moved to the CBI court. CBI has sought custody of Jagan for the next 14 days as he had reportedly refused to cooperate with the CBI interrogation during the past three days.
