| You will want to buy this knife after watching this video. You have been warned. I make the case here why I love the Microtech SOCOM and it is compelling. That's because the SOCOM series is compelling. And I know the type well with over eight years experience in the type (and more to come). From my overseas military deployments to long term civilian use, the SOCOMs have never let me down. This is the full sized SOCOM, upsized from my also beloved Mini SOCOM Elites reviewed in 2008 (shown). If you're a knife maker and want to see how to achieve technical excellence, study the SOCOMs and this is a good place to start. I have FIVE here to show you in this epic Old School review. POUs of HEC, Tactical, Gift, and Collectiblility are discussed. At just 4.6 ounces, the weight alone for this BIG 4" blade is a technical achievement. You should credit the 6061 T6 anodized handle for that: no ridiculous steel inserts here, just a perfectly milled super light, pillar constructed, strong handle. Expect to find the proprietary Microtech fasteners in the newest SOCOMS, cool in looks, a hassle for maintenance. Blade shapes are perfection in the SOCOM. The clip/bowie one is my favorite for its elegance, amazing cutting capability, precise tip, and unsharpened swedge run. The Microtech Tanto in this knife, surprisingy to some maybe, is a CLOSE second: you will be struck by its strength and it's even faster, hard-thwack deployment.
