"DPMS LR:308: Value Heavy Hitter" by Nutnfancy

When you need to reach out and touch someone...for less. In this Nutnfancy DPMS LR-308 I bring into play five years of testing and shooting the type for this reference tabletop review. The LR-308 has critics and some of that is deserved as some rifles have had problems (shown, discussed). But in TNP these TAC-20 and Classic Custom models ran sure and accurate, the best value .308 SAPR or Battle Rifle Value I've seen to date. Some of that comes from the extensive variety of the guns available (shown); for their value and equipment my 2012 faves are the TAC-20, 3G1, MOE, and in some POUS the AP4 LR-308 models. All feature the same construction as shown with variances of barrel type/length, grips, sights, rails, stocks, and muzzle devices. In the Semi Auto Precision Rifle (SAPR, TNP term) POU, these 20" test beds rocked, even in 10ºF cold winter conditions. Chambered in 7.62x51mm, the LRs shoot into 1 MOA, sometimes even with cheaper 150 grain ball ammo (shown)! Accuracy in these .308 semi autos remained astonishing throughout the testing phases in TNP. In practical combat style RunNGun courses here, the AR-10 variants impressed all shooters, rolling in with record high scores in the TNP Sledgehammer Drill (see referenced Troy Shoot vid; www.youtube.com Triggers on the value LR-308s are bad and they were replaced with a Wilson Combat TTU (drop in). "Insanely Sharp Knives" by Nutnfancy (Edge Pro Apex)

Chances are the knife in your pocket is dull. Really dull. I know because I've seen it! But like automobile maintenance, keeping your blades in top operation form should be a priority. Otherwise it will let you down when you might really need it. I start off the vid by showing you my own medium capability hand sharpening skill on a SOG Gov-Tac. It's ranks about a 6 out of 10 for impressiveness. But not the Edge Pro Apex sharpener. This is a solid 10, the best sharpener I've ever found. The EPA is a compact and easy to taking along manual sharpening system that REALLY works. Much hype has accompanied other sharpeners and I've been disappointed in each one on most levels. They don't' come close to the capabilities of this one. Here I take you for the sharpening ride with the awesome Microtech SOCOM, somewhat dulled after TNP cutting tests. With its S35V steel, it's a perfect test bed for this exercise. Covered in this reference Nutnfancy vid: philosophy on sharpening (and the sometimes elitist controversy that surrounds it), setup, sharpening angles, technique and practice, stone selections, gotcha's, and the many upsides to the Edge Pro Apex. Once practiced you will find you can get "in and out" of the EPA quickly and will simply be astounded with the results (shown in detail here). "Microtech SOCOM: TACTICAL LUST...PREPARE YOURSELF" by Nutnfancy

You will want to buy this knife after watching this video. You have been warned. I make the case here why I love the Microtech SOCOM and it is compelling. That's because the SOCOM series is compelling. And I know the type well with over eight years experience in the type (and more to come). From my overseas military deployments to long term civilian use, the SOCOMs have never let me down. This is the full sized SOCOM, upsized from my also beloved Mini SOCOM Elites reviewed in 2008 (shown). If you're a knife maker and want to see how to achieve technical excellence, study the SOCOMs and this is a good place to start. I have FIVE here to show you in this epic Old School review. POUs of HEC, Tactical, Gift, and Collectiblility are discussed. At just 4.6 ounces, the weight alone for this BIG 4" blade is a technical achievement. You should credit the 6061 T6 anodized handle for that: no ridiculous steel inserts here, just a perfectly milled super light, pillar constructed, strong handle. Expect to find the proprietary Microtech fasteners in the newest SOCOMS, cool in looks, a hassle for maintenance. Blade shapes are perfection in the SOCOM. The clip/bowie one is my favorite for its elegance, amazing cutting capability, precise tip, and unsharpened swedge run. CHINA vs USA: Kershaw Compound VS Turbulence by Nutnfancy

THESE BLADES UP FOR BID AS A SET- www.ebay.com Which one would YOU buy? Two very similar knives from the same company. One costs over twice as much as the other however. Here the US made Kershaw Turbulence 1790 goes up against its team mate the Chinese produced Kershaw Compound 1940. In bottom line practical cutting they will be very similar if not identical. Because of their lacking of high end traction, their POUs are decidedly EDC. At their 4.2 oz carry weight, they fail to excite me in that application; at this point we have just too many other better and LIGHTER options. But a close look at their quality levels, lockup, assisted opening feature, clip strength, ergos, and sharpness levels out of their nearly identical recurved drop points impresses. The Compound is a price point knife and takes advantage of indigenous Chinese materials like 8Cr13MOV steel and the slick lower quality G10. They both use the same clip. The 1790 Turbulence is higher end in materials: Sandvik 14C28N steel and medium traction G10 providing better grip (on the sides at least). But in function the similarities remain and you have to make a call: the $70 Turbulence or the $22 Compound. Herein then lies a fascinating case study of Made in the USA that provides direct comparabilities...at least from one knife manufacturer.
