United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas from Roosevelt, NY went toe to toe with the New York Police Department. An activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement, Thomas voiced his opinions of the NYPD police brutality that had and has been plaguing the #OWS movement. NYPD Cop Punches Protester at Occupy Wall Street, 10/14/11

Journalist and Reason contributor Michael Tracey is covering New York's Occupy Wall Street as it's happening. Above is footage he shot as the protesters marched through the street of Manhattan and had various stand-offs with the New York Police Department. Tracey himself reports being punched in the shoulder while filming. In the above video, around the 1.40 mark, a white-shirted NYPD officer decks a protester in a green shirt (how the incident started is unclear). NYPD rushing a shot cop to Bellevue Jan 31 2012

Recorded January 31, 2012. 9.30pm. Various twitter feeds report a cop shot at 370 Bushwick Ave in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They rush him to Bellevue Hospital. Most traffic feeding onto the main route leading to the hospital was blocked off at least 5-10 min in advance of the emergency vehicles. edit: I was on the northbound M15 select bus when I began noticing cop cars at various intersections along the route beginning at Delancey St. As the bus headed up First Avenue, maybe half a dozen cop cars sped in front of the bus. Eventually the bus reached E 24th St where I began recording. I didn't know what was going on until later. The full footage is actually 5 and half minutes long. but in the interest of time, I cut away most of the dull moments. I counted at least 36 among the initial escort in the video, then there's a 1 and a half min lull (edited out) before 7 more vehicles pass by. Then another 1 min lull before two suburbans roll by with maybe the mayor or ray kelly in it flanked by black cars with a hatzolah ambulance trailing it (not on video). ----------- canon elph 300 hs night low light video test ny new york nyc manhattan

NYPD Melee, Arrests at Outset of Wildcat March, May Day, #M1GS, #OWS

May Day 2012. 1pm: "Wildcat" strikers assemble at Sara Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side (NYC). Around 1:30pm, a march begins, led by a Black Bloc, including hundreds of OWS protestors and student strikers, but the NYPD intervene almost immediately, pulling protestors out of the crowd, tackling them to the ground. A pile-up ensued. Meanwhile, hundreds of marchers headed south onto the streets of the Lower East Side while police were distracted with the initial arrests.

I saw this on my walk back to the office from lunch. It was a nice contrast to the perception everyone has of the NYPD in the area due to the Occupy Wall Street camp nearby.

NYPD: Man Implicates Himself in Etan Patz Disappearance

NEW YORK — New York City police said a man has implicated himself in the death of 6-year-old Etan Patz, whose disappearance 33 years ago helped launch a missing children's movement that put kids' faces on milk cartons. The suspect in custody has been identified as Pedro Hernandez, who worked in in a SoHo shop near the Patz's home, sources said. New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said further details would be released later on Thursday.
