Sand Flea Jumping Robot

Sand Flea is an 11-lb robot with one trick up its sleeve: Normally it drives like an RC car, but when it needs to it can jump 30 feet into the air. An onboard stabilization system keeps it oriented during flight to improve the view from the video uplink and to control landings. Hawaiian Steel Guitar "SAND" by Ross Costa

A favorite among steelers, this classic song evokes the soft, lilting sounds of the islands. "Sand" was written by the great steel guitarist & saxophonist Andy Iona in 1930. Stop Motion Sand Sculpture

I made these pieces at El Segundo and Manhattan Beach here in Los Angeles. The time-lapse sculptures typically take around 2 hours. The stop motion ones usually take 6-7 hours. I usually don't use any tools when I work. The music is from the 2000 LTJ Bukem album Journey Inwards, the song is called Watercolours.
