Baku Olympic Stadium Baku Olympic Stadium is to be one of the prominent city landmarks of the city Baku of Azerbaijan. It is planned to be situated near city entrance, on 50 Ha estate bordered by Heydar Aliyev boulevard in the south-east, and Boyuk Shor lake in the north, between Azizbeyov and Sabunchu cross-roads. It takes the aim to create a gravity point where modern architecture meets the urban citizen and to give a new insight to modern sportive structures. The Design Theme Architectural character of the structure is formed by five interlocked shells with the circular platform placed on these asymmetric coverings. Five circles on Olympic flag symbolizing five continents are represented by five piece structure which forms the outer shell. Peoples` olympic spirit with sportive and cultural interaction on the different continents is represented by the image of motion on platform symbolizing the Earth. The outer shell that covers the stadium transforms the roof into facades emphasizing its character. The shell maintains its presence over the whole project from approaching the structure and till inside the arena. The white facade as in the background of olympic flag is expressive also at nights through the exterior lightning with colors symbolizing the continents. Site Baku Olympic Stadium along its unique architectural concept will be constructed on very exceptional site with its views to Boyuk Shor lake and proximity to city center and airport . Stadium opens 2012 hours ahead of Olympics

London's Olympic Stadium is formally open for business. About 40000 people attended an inauguration ceremony on Saturday, opening the stadium 2012 hours before the official start of the games in July. On hand were sports fans, Olympic planners and, of course, athletes, who got a trial run of the track. Al Jazeera's Gerald Tan reports.

Save Stadium Woods - Virginia Tech

Sign the petition! www.ipetitions.com Hold President Steger and the Board of Visitors accountable. Hidden behind Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium is an 11 acre tract of forest known as 'Stadium Woods'. This woodland is a rare fragment of old growth forest that supports white oaks over 300 hundred years old. Stadium Woods is a living ecosystem and wildlife habitat that provides vital ecological functions, aesthetic and social benefits, and is a migration sanctuary for bird species from south and central America. The Virginia Tech football program has proposed to clear a 3-5 acre portion of this old growth forest in order to build a 100000 sq. ft., 90 ft. tall, $25 million, indoor practice field. We do not oppose the construction of this practice facility. However, we do believe that the proposed structure can be constructed elsewhere. The Friends of Stadium Woods are asking that you consider signing the petition below to help us save this one last remaining remnant of old growth forest.
