| The annual Yale SOM Philanthropy Conference convenes philanthropists, nonprofit leaders, academics, and students to discuss trends and issues affecting the social sector. This year's event, titled "Beyond Best Practices: Financing and Implementing Change," was held February 3 at the Omni Hotel in New Haven. The conference featured breakout sessions on topics including developing successful partnerships across sectors, capitalizing on new technologies and business opportunities, and understanding when alternative funding models are most effective. One session, titled The Evolving Social Sector, brought together leaders of four nonprofits to discuss how they've adapted to a world where globalization impacts how aid can be delivered and social media revolutionizes how organizations communication with donors and the public at large. The keynote speakers for the conference were Jed Emerson, executive vice president of ImpactAssets, and Judith Samuelson '82, executive director of the Aspen Institute's Business and Society Program.
