Hartmann: Will Corporations get the Right to Commit Genocide?

Ian Millhiser, Center for American Progress joins Thom Hartmann. Is the Supreme Court about to give corporations the right to commit genocide? Believe it or not - that may happen. The High Court has agreed to hear the case of Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum which could give corporations immunity from any lawsuits for their employees murdering, raping, or torturing people in the areas where they're drilling for oil or fielding mercenary armies - just as long as they're carrying out the atrocities under the heading of corporate business.

To help us with that list - Dave Johnson joins Thom from the Campaign for America's Future.

Thom Hartmann: Our biggest threat is not Al Qaeda, debt, illegal immigration or taxes

Last week - Canadian Members of Parliament brought up in important issue in their House of Commons...wealth inequality. A motion was agreed upon across Party lines that read: "This House notes the findings...that societies with smaller income differences between rich and poor have fewer health and social problems, such as teenage births, violence, mental illness and drug abuse; further notes that such societies have higher levels of trust between citizens and more social mobility; and therefore encourages the Government to promote policies that reduce income inequality." In other words - they're going to do something about the richer getting richer and the poor getting poorer. So isn't it about time we do the same??

Thom Hartmann: WTO trumps US sovereignty - no more dolphin-safe tuna

If you thought our government was in charge of making laws -- think again. It turns out the World Trade Organization is telling us what to do. Yesterday -- the WTO took a bite out of US sovereignty -- ruling that American can no longer label tuna products as "dolphin safe." Why? Because such labeling could restrict the purchase of certain foreign tuna products -- thus limiting "free trade" in America.

Thom Hartmann & Charles Rangel: Is perpetual war about to become law?

The House Amed Services Committee recently passed the National Defense Authorization Act - a bill that authorizes funding to the Department of Defense and the Constitution requires must be passed at least every two years. And buried deep within the bill - in Section 1034 - there's a provision that reads: "Congress affirms that - the United States is engaged in an armed conflict with al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces and that those entities continue to pose a threat to the United States and its citizens...the President has the authority to use all necessary and appropriate force during the current armed conflict...pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force...until the termination of hostilities." In other words - it lets the President commit our nation to endless war until every single terrorist is dead. And if Obama doesn't want to take advantage of it, you can bet if we get another Bush into office, he will. The ACLU calls the provision: " single biggest hand-over of unchecked war authority from Congress to the executive branch in modern American history."
