| Unholy is a Finnish Death/Black/Doom/Avantgarde (?) metal band founded in Imatra, Finland 1988 ( The band was formerly known as "Holy Hell" but it changed it's name in '90. Under former name, the band released an independent demo "Kill Jesus"'89). When Unholy's first demos, untitled demo and "Procession of Black Doom" came out in distribution during the DM boom in early 90's, the style of Unholy was simply too artistic and original for the mainstream death metallers even in Finland. The EP/demo "Trip to Depressive Autumn"'91 however got much good response from the death metal fans and they got signed to Lethal records. Through Lethal records they released their first full-length "From the Shadows"'93 which boldly followed it's own muscial paths. Album never managed to be a hit in DM markets and the deal with the record company began to shatter aswell. Finally the deal was broken and Unholy signed to Avantgarde records. In 1994, band recorded their second album "The Second Ring of Power" which was experimentally taken even further that it's predecessor , using violins, more female vocs and keyborads was the work that the band's members were most satisfied with. However, once again, band's work did not manage to impress mainstream Death metallers and the album had controversial welcoming.
