Field Recorder Comparo - Sony PCM-D50 & Zoom H2n

A friend loaned me a Sony PCM-D50 and I just got a new Zoom H2n, so I put them up for a comparison. I used REAPER to generate a test tone, then used that test tone to match levels between recordings. I also included the Zoom H2 in the test, along with a reference track recorded with a Rode NT4 stereo mic into an Echo Audiofire Pre8. The strings are CFCFAC from low to high. The cameras used were two Sanyo Xacti HD2000 camcorders. Their audio is pretty lame, sorry. Editing in Edius Neo Booster. Zoom h4n field recording

I got my field recorder yesterday, and decided to test it out with a nature recording...I recorded the bird song in the forest near my house and mixed it with the stream. If you listen carefully you can hear a tractor in the distance, nothing I could do about that...I'm very happy with the recorder though. This recording was made with the built in microphones, which are pretty good though they sound a little thin and harsh. I will test it with an external mic soon.
