Rise - Herb Alpert (1979)

"Rise" is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by jazz trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album "Rise" and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and remained in the top position for two weeks. Herb Alpert thus became the first (and only) artist to reach the top of the Hot 100 with a vocal performance ("This Guy's In Love With You", 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. "Rise" also spent one week atop the Adult Contemporary chart. "Rise" was successful on several other charts. It peaked at number four on the Soul chart and number seventeen on the Disco chart. The recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. "Rise" was originally recorded as an uptempo dance song. However, Herb and Randy tried slowing the tempo down to 100 bpm. Upon release, the song received an unexpected burst of promotion. Jill Phelps, musical director of the ABC soap opera General Hospital, decided to use "Rise" as the musical backdrop for the rape of Laura Webber by Luke Spencer. For several weeks afterward, the recording was played on the show to evoke the memory of Luke's act. The added exposure in an extremely popular program boosted sales to the point of selling more than two million copies. Super Hit comedy movie Nauker (1979) of Sanjeev Kumar, Jaya Bachchan(Bhaduri), Jalal Agha, Mehmood, Madhu Malini, Yogeeta Bali. Synopsis: Amar Babu (Sanjeev Kumar) is a rich man. His wife has died leaving behind her a little sweet daughter, who needs the love of mother. But Amar Babu is afraid of the second marriage, for he thinks that the step mother would not give his daughter the much-needed affection. Dayal (Mahmood) is a servant in the house of Amar Babu. But he is more than a brother to him. One day Amar Babu has to bow down to the wishes of his relatives and decides for the marriage. Now Amar Babu is in a fix. How to select a girl who should be an ideal wife and mother is his biggest problem! He decides to see the gil and tells Dayal that he will take his place. Amar Babu becomes Dayal and vice versa. Both go to see the girl in the house of Manmohan Krishan & Lalita Pawar, who have two daughters Madhu Malini and Meena T. Jaya Bhaduri, is also working as a maid servant in the same house. Amar Babu now turned Dayal gets a shabby place to live by the side of Jaya Bhaduri, Dayal receives the best of treatment. How Amar Babu selects the girl and whom he selects is all shown in the film, which is full of comedy by Sanjeev Kumar and Mahmood with a touch of social background.
