Description: The chip in soccer can be used as a pass or shot. Mainly it's for passing. You want to use a chip pass when you want to lob it in to your teammate over a defender that's in between you and your teammate. It's easier for a teammate to receive this type of pass then you crushing it at them! Key Points: 1. Strike underneath ball / Turn foot out using laces 2. Lean Back 3. Follow through low, not high Equipment Needed: Ball, cones and a trash can Exercise Player Can Do: Set a target up like a trash can about 30 yards away from you. Place some cones between you and the target. Then practice chipping balls at the trash can. Don't rush; this is technique work, not fitness. What Player Could Be Doing Wrong: If the ball isn't getting high enough for you make sure you are not kicking down on it. Keep your swing low from start to finish so you can get under the ball. If the ball isn't going straight for you make sure your shoulders are facing your target when you finish your chip. Also don't have your foot moving after you hit the ball.
