NASA | IBEX Spacecraft Observes Matter from Interstellar Space

A great magnetic bubble surrounds the solar system as it cruises through the galaxy. The sun pumps the inside of the bubble full of solar particles that stream out to the edge until they collide with the material that fills the rest of the galaxy, at a complex boundary called the heliosheath. On the other side of the boundary, electrically charged particles from the galactic wind blow by, but rebound off the heliosheath, never to enter the solar system. Neutral particles, on the other hand, are a different story. They saunter across the boundary as if it weren't there, continuing on another 7.5 billion miles for 30 years until they get caught by the sun's gravity, and sling shot around the star. There, NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer lies in wait for them. Known as IBEX for short, this spacecraft methodically measures these samples of the mysterious neighborhood beyond our home. IBEX scans the entire sky once a year, and every February, its instruments point in the correct direction to intercept incoming neutral atoms. IBEX counted those atoms in 2009 and 2010 and has now captured the best and most complete glimpse of the material that lies so far outside our own system. The results? It's an alien environment out there: the material in that galactic wind doesn't look like the same stuff our solar system is made of. Kerbal Space Program - Kerbinrise

A new game that is right up my alley: Kerbal Space Program! Many of you suggested I try this indie game currently in its early stages of development. In KSP, you're responsible for building, launching and flying rockets in your own fledgling space program on planet Kerbin. This early version is light on components and only has simple sandbox style gameplay, but I can foresee exciting things ahead as this game continues through development. In today's episode, we succeed in sustaining a stable orbit around the Mun! After taking a few photos, doing some science and drifting aimlessly, we turn to make what should be a very simple burn to return us to planet Kerbin. Space Is The Place [Sun Ra Film 1974]

One of the best 'cult films' ever made in my opinion and one that defies description or easy genre categorisation which is perhaps why it never receives the kudos or praise it deserves. It was only after watching Space Is The Place that the music of Sun Ra & His Intergalactic Arkestra really made any real sense. Who was Sun Ra? Sun Ra was allegedly born Herman Poole Blount on May 22nd 1914 and returned to the stars on May 30th 1993. He was a prolific jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, one of the earliest UFO contactees, a poet and philosopher known for his "cosmic philosophy," musical compositions and performances. He himself said he was of the "Angel Race" and not from Earth, but from Saturn. Taken from the official website by the director Jim Newman: In 1971 American producer Jim Newman appproached John Coney, a producer/director at a public television station KQED in San Francisco with a proposal for a thirty minute performance documentary on the Sun Ra Arkestra. Sun Ra immediately saw the film as an opportunity to make a statement about the conditions of black people on planet earth - and as a powerful medium for his music as a vehicle for lifting them out of their collective misery.
