In an October 1999 appearance on comedian Bill Maher's show ''Politically Incorrect,'' O'Donnell mentioned that she "dabbled in witchcraft" as a teenager. Maher found the old footage from his show and aired it on his current HBO show, ''Real Time,'' on Friday, September 17, 2010. In the clip, O'Donnell says: "I dabbled into witchcraft -- I never joined a coven...I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do. One of my first dates with a witch was on a satanic altar, and I didn't know it. I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that. We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a satanic altar." O'Donnell's remarks about witchcraft prompted some powerful Republicans, including former Bush White House Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, to suggest that O'Donnell should explain her comments. On Sunday, September 19, 2010, Rove, who now works as a Republican strategist, told FOX News that "In southern Delaware, where there are a lot of church-going people, they're probably going to want to know what was that all about." On Monday, September 20, 2010, Republican Representative Mike Pence of Indiana told ABC's ''Good Morning America'' that O'Donnell has an "obligation ... |
