Bon Iver at AIR Studios (4AD/Jagjaguwar Session)

4AD and Jagjaguwar have collaborated on a live session that captures a truly unique Bon Iver performance, featuring Justin Vernon and Sean Carey. On recent tours fans will have become accustomed to seeing Vernon flanked by an eleven-piece band, with the swell in numbers lending a grandiose element to even his most delicate songs. Sidestepping expectations, the idea Vernon presented for this session was to provide a wildly different experience. Recorded in AIR Studio's Lyndurst Hall - a building that was originally a church and missionary school designed in 1880 by the great Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse (designer of the Natural History Museum) - Vernon was joined only by Carey, with the pair positioning themselves opposite one another at two grand pianos. Although neither Justin nor Sean's first instrument is piano, they were able to remodel the songs in a way that showcases their complimentary vocals and, perhaps more strikingly, a seemingly effortless ability to experiment with form and structure. As such, fans are treated to jaw-dropping interpretations of several songs from both the new album and the 'Blood Bank' EP, as well as a cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me". And interpretation is an apt word, as these songs are artfully abstracted from their original incarnations. Rather than layer the sound as on 'Bon Iver, Bon Iver', the focus is on paring back, in part evoking the minimalist approach of contemporary classical music, while remaining ...

The Clash - Clampdown

"Clampdown" is a single and a song by The Clash, on the album London Calling. The song began as a instrumental track called "Working and Waiting". It is sometimes called "Working for the Clampdown" which is the main lyric of the song, and also the title provided on the album's lyric sheet. Its lyrics comment on people who forsake the idealism of youth and urges young people to fight the status quo. "Clampdown" was written by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. The song's lyrics, written by Joe Strummer, have a variety of interpretions. One commonly held belief is that it refers to the Nazi regime[citation needed]. According to this view, the reference to "wearing blue and brown" would refer to the monochromatic military-style uniforms often worn by federal police forces in dictatorial regimes, specifically the all-brown uniform worn by members of Hitler's SA (see Sturmabteilung). The first verse is also commonly cited in support of the Nazi interpretation of the song, containing as it does references to Jews (see the Final Solution), blue-eyed men (see Aryan race) and young believers (see Hitler Youth): Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew? Cause they're working for the clampdown They put up a poster saying we earn more than you! When we're working for the clampdown We will teach our twisted speech To the young believers We will train our blue-eyed men To be young believers Others believe that the lyrics are more broad in scope, reflecting the failures of ...

The Zombie Song Analysis - The Zombie Song Analysis: Episode 1 (Lullaby For a Dead Man)

In this video we analyse the lyrics to the song 'Lullaby for a Dead Man' which was composed by Kevin Sherwood and vocals peformed by Elena Siegman. This is the first of 8 episodes each analysing the lyrics to the Easter Egg songs in all of the Call of Duty: Nazi Zombies maps in the order: Lullaby For a Dead Man, The One, Beauty of Annihilation, 115, Abracadvre, Not Ready to Die, Pareidolia and finally Coming Home. Seeing as Treyarch only really developed the Nazi Zombies Story starting with Shi No Numa, this song has near to no relevance to the actual story of it and that only picks up in Beauty of Annihilation in which the lyrics introduce all 4 characters and their motives. However it would be stupid starting half way through so I decided to do Lullaby for a Dead Man and The One to make it a complete series. Lullaby For a Dead Man: Rating of Song: 7/10 Relevance to Story: 1/10 Creativity of Lyrics 4/10 Leave your thoughts and opinions on the video, the song and the game in the comments below, if you think any of the lyrics mean anything different then please mention it to me and I'll annotate the video. Also I edited the video with snip-it's from the song so that there are pauses for you to read the on screen text and so you don't have to listen to lyrics I've already done. Oh and guys what d'you think of the intro? I'm really happy with it as it took me a while to do with Windows Movie Maker xD DISCLAIMER: All interpretations of the lyrics in this video are purely in ...

Richard Wagner - Das Rheingold - Der Ring des Nibelungen - part 1

"Vorspiel"/"Weia! Woge, du welle"/"Hehe! Ihr nicker!"/"Garstig glatter glitschiger glimmer"/"Wie in den glieder brunstige glut". Scene 1. "Das Rheingold" (The Rhine Gold), first of the four operas of "Der Ring des Nibelungen" (The Ring of the Nibelung). Music and text by Richard Wagner (1813-1883). Conductor: Georg Solti & Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Wagner's essential peculiarity is therepresentation of the drama as an element of introspection; his operas can't be considered operas in the traditional meaning of the word, but great compositions where music, singing, poetry and psychology merge to interpret the life. In Wagner's conception the drama expect an almost religious attention, which the public has to attend to as the story takes place in his mind; so the drama rises magically from the imagination of the public before being in music. The music of the Cycle is composed by a mosaic of leading motifs, the leitmotiv, which embode characters or feelings, so their continuos reappearing produces a sort of psychological premonition. No closed-form pieces or arias interfer with the free flow of the narration which goes on without solution of continuity from the beginning to the end of every act, subjecting the singing to the comment of an orchestra enormous for the number of instruments and resonant wideness. It is also important in Wagner the use of chromatism, that incessant wave of chromatic spirals which is took to extremes till it leave the tonal structure. The ...

The Zombie Song Analysis - The Zombie Song Analysis: Episode 2 (The One)

In this video we analyse the lyrics to the song 'The One' which was composed by Kevin Sherwood and vocals peformed by Elena Siegman. This is the second of 8 episodes each analysing the lyrics to the Easter Egg songs in all of the Call of Duty: Nazi Zombies maps in the order: Lullaby For a Dead Man, The One, Beauty of Annihilation, 115, Abracadvre, Not Ready to Die, Pareidolia and finally Coming Home. There isn't much relevance at all to the Nazi Zombies story in this song however it explains how the zombies feel and their 'motives' as such. I still included this and Lullaby For a Dead Man so that it was a complete series. It really picks up in the next episode where the song talks about all 4 characters and states their point of view, so stay tuned ^.^ The One: Rating of Song: 6/10 Relevance to Story: 1/10 Creativity of Lyrics 3/10 Leave your thoughts and opinions on the video, the song and the game in the comments below, if you think any of the lyrics mean anything different then please mention it to me and I'll annotate the video.
