The House on Haunted Hill

Five people are invited by Frederick and Annabelle Loren to spend 12 hours in the house on Haunted Hill. All who manage to do so will receive $10000. The house is presumably haunted - one of the guests, Mr. Pritchard, who seems to know a great deal about the history of the place and says there are seven in all - but greed drives most of the victims who immediately face various threats to their lives. A chandelier almost kills one; another is haunted by the ghostly apparition of an old crone; while yet another gets a bump on the head in a mysterious room. As the guests continue to be frightened and threatened, two have their own very specific reason for being there and not everyone will live through the night.

A gang of street robbers operate in different areas of Kolkata. The robbers, disguised as police or sometimes as pedestrians, pretend to help elderly people and steal their money or jewellery. Police start investigating the robberies on receiving complaints from the victims and apprehend the robbers red-handed after trapping them. Later, they arrest the gang leader with the help of the robbers.

Fire in Villaggio Mall in Doha Qatar. At least 13 children and six adults have been killed after a fire broke out in an upmarket shopping mall in the Qatari capital Doha. Firefighters were forced to smash their way through the roof of the building to reach people trapped inside after a staircase to the first-floor nursery collapsed. A diplomatic source in Madrid said four of the dead children were Spanish. A three-year-old French child was also among the victims. Others are believed to be from Japan, the Philippines and Benin. The fire broke out at the Villagio Mall in Doha's west end a short time before midday. Smoke was seen billowing from the building as ambulances and police vehicles blocked entry to the complex. It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze. 'We tried our best, but when we got there, the children were trapped inside. We are very sorry for what happened. We tried as much as we could to save these people,' Qatar's Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheik Abdullah told reporters in Doha.
