| One has spent his adult life broadcasting all that is skiing and riding...the other, a pioneer of Freestyle Skiing. Together they are Winter Sports monuments. Curtis Fong is known as "The Guy from Tahoe". He's broadcast thousands of ski reports, announced countless ski races and events, hosted numerous TV ski shows, writes ski stories for the Tahoe Tribune, and basically devotes his winters to covering the sport he loves. Wayne Wong popularized freestyle skiing 40 years ago as the original hot dogger. Today, he reps Anton Skis and is one of skiing's most universally beloved personalities. Now living in Reno, the Canadian born Wong was part of the North American Snowsports Journalist Association awards banquet honoring his buddy Curtis Fong with the Mitch Kaplan award...presented annually to a prolific journalist producer of winter sports coverage, in the spirit of the late Mitch Kaplan who embodied the essence of ski journalist quality, spirit, and passion. The ceremony was part of a weeklong convention headquartered at Heavenly Mountain Resort in Tahoe South. Since "fun" is the operative word when it comes to skiing, the new Tamarack Lodge takes apres ski to a new level. Starting about 3pm every Friday and Saturday after skiing..dancing girls, half price drinks, and DJ dance floor action takes center stage for the new UNBUCKLE happening. |
