In the film you will witness: - The making of a replica Nordic-type sword using traditional swordsmithing methods, from selecting the material to the final assembly of the sword. - Forging the individual elements of the sword, surface finishing, hardening the blade and strength tests, making the grip, decorating the guard and pommel, assembly of the sword, making the scabbard and performing cutting tests. - Many detailed views, including decorating the sword with silver-copper and brass inlays. - Clear animations explaining the production processes and the sword's construction. The film was made with the aim of explaining the essentials of making a replica of a sword both to the uninitiated public and those more experienced in this field. Collectors, fencers, members of historical re-enactment associations, hobbyists and those who seriously consider making their own or buying their first sword will find here a wealth of information and previously unpublished swordsmithing procedures. The film was shot live following the making of one specific weapon from its beginning to its completion. There is no acting involved, the footage shows only authentic production in a real forge.

Tracks "Faunus" and "Umbra" from Pugnate album. Musica Romana is a well-known, internationally-acclaimed music ensemble dedicated to recreating the Ancient Roman music. Among other things, their music was featured the Europa Barbarorum, a video game mod for Rome: Total War. The Pugnate (Latin: fight!) album recreates the music at the gladiatorial games of Imperial Rome. I do not claim any part of this video is mine and this music belongs to Music Romana. I have noticed YouTube lacks any examples of their work, so I thought it would be splendid if more people discovered this cultural treasure. The soulful "Dew" from the Grateful Dead's Europe 72 album is synched with scenes from "On the Beach," the film that inspired the writing of the song by Bonnie Dobson. In an interview she had this to say about the connection between the song and film: "I think it must have been maybe 1960 or 1959, I can't remember, when I saw a film called "On The Beach" and it made a tremendous impression on me, that film. Particularly at that time because everybody was very worried about the bomb and whether we were going to get through the next 10 years. It was a very immediate problem and I remember I was singing in Los Angeles at the Ashe Grove and I sat up all night talking with some friends. I was staying with a girl named Joyce Nastelin(sp) whom I lost contact with, nice woman she was. And I don't know, she went to bed or something and I just sat and suddenly I just started writing this song. I had never written anything in my life. I'd written some poetry as a kid. I'd never written songs and this song just came out and really it was a kind of re-enactment of that film in a way where at the end there is nobody left and it was a conversation between these two people trying to explain what's happening. It was really apocalypse, that was what it was about."
