A day in the Bronx pt1- Remembering the Black Spades

The notorious Black Spades was once the largest and most feared gang in New York City. Hailing from the Bronx, the Spades had as their warlord, Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa. They were the precursors to Hip Hop.. We caught up with many of the members including original leader Bam Bam who gave Bambaataa his name. We spoke with Hip Hop legend Popmaster Fabel who is finishing up a documentary on early gang culture called 'The Apache line'. We also hear from Karate Charlie who was the President of the Ghetto Brothers which was another large Street Orginazation highlighted in Jeff Chang's book 'Cant Stop Wont Stop'..

May Day Protests NYC: ARRESTED for Standing on the Side Walk! Cops acting like god. (occupy, OWS) thanks goto Timcast.tv Occupy Wall Street protesters massed outside banks, meditated in public and staged anti-corporate song and dance routines on Tuesday in a May Day effort to revive a movement that triggered nationwide protests against economic injustice last year. Police arrested small numbers of protesters in minor clashes around New York, chasing hundreds of marchers on Broadway, as demonstrations unfolded around the country. Although labor unions rejected Occupy pleas for a general strike and demonstrators backed off a pledge to occupy San Francisco's Golden Gate bridge, activists hailed the day's events as a step forward in the movement that had grown inactive and cash poor since capturing world attention last fall. "We've been building important alliances and radicalized people in what they're willing to endorse. I mean, we never even used to celebrate May Day. Now look at this," said David Graeber, an anthropologist and author active in the movement. Although May Day originated in Chicago, the workers' day normally gains little notice in the United States compared with other countries around the world. "We pulled back from big civil disobedience plans this morning with the purpose of building stronger alliances," Graeber said. But many demonstrators wore black bandanas symbolic of an anarchist faction within the largely peaceful Occupy movement, leading to some of ...

Spanish Civil War (1 of 2)

Anarchism has historically gained the most support and influence in Spain, especially in the seventy or so years before Francisco Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939. There were several variants of anarchism in Spain: the peasant anarchism in the countryside of Andalusia; urban anarcho-syndicalism in Catalonia, particularly its capital Barcelona; and what is sometimes called "pure" anarchism in other cities such as Zaragoza. However, these were complementary trajectories, and shared a great deal of ideological similarities. Early on, the success of the anarchist movement was sporadic. Anarchists would organize a strike and ranks would swell. Usually, repression by police reduced the numbers again, but at the same time further radicalized many members. This cycle helped lead to an era of mutual violence at the beginning of the 20th century, in which armed anarchists and pistoleros, armed men paid by company owners, were both responsible for political assassinations. In the 20th century, this violence began to fade, and the movement gained speed with the rise of anarcho-syndicalism and the creation of the huge libertarian union, the CNT. General strikes became common, and large portions of the Spanish working class adopted anarchist ideas. The FAI was created as a purely anarchist association, with the intention of keeping the CNT focused on the principles of anarchism. Anarchists played a central role in the fight against Franco during the Spanish Civil ...

The Anarchist Cookbook

Find out more at www.desertpublications.net Beyond the Pages of The Anarchist Cookbook The Anarchist Cookbook is not an easy read. It gets straight to the point in a brutal and unforgiving fashion that doesn't really care if you like it or not. If you are the passive resister type, this is not the book for you. If you want a survival type guidebook that teaches you how to make many things that are both illegal and deadly, than you probably already have it. This anarchist cookbook has a reputation that precedes itself and for very good reason. It has been 30 years since its first publication and to this day the publishing world has seen nothing quite like it. At 19 years of age, fresh out of high school, William Powell was not your typical Vietnam protester anti-Government activist. This kid wasn't all talk because he went a few steps further than your average hippie on a podium with a bullhorn shouting about what should be done. While that was happening, young William was at his typewriter writing about how it can be done and giving you the tools to do it with. The first 30 pages gives the reader, the aspiring anarchist if you will, a look into the authors views on anarchy and how and why it can be used as an effective tool against governments that he felt were becoming more oppressive and secretive by the day. Some people might even consider this book a type of anarchist survival guide. This is the appetizer for the meal itself and, although the book as a whole can be a ...

Volatile Monument Rally in Caledonia Feb 27 2011

Feb 27, 2011 A volatile & eventful protest which saw Caledonia residents & CANACE refuse to back down from a hostile & at times violent crowd outnumbering them 30:1, a woman trying to set up Mark Vandermaas for a bogus assault charge, a group of anarchists tresspassing on private property & then complalining when an agent for said property attempted to remove one of them, at least 2 people including Six Nations "Men's Fire" member Bev Crawford assault Caledonia Victims Project founder Mark Vandermaas, another supporter of lawlessness assaulting CANACE Co-Founder Jeff Parkinson, countless failed attempts at intimidation of Non Natives, Ruby Montour showing her true stripes, the Ontario Provincial Police walking away from the scene, & without question one of the most intense rallies that CANACE has ever seen. When Crawford attacked Vandermaas, plain clothes OPP officers wrestled him away but refused to place him under arrest. Despite a formal complaint by Mark Vandermaas to the then commander of the Haldimand OPP, no charges were ever filed for this assault. As of the time of publishing, Bev Crawford stands charged with assaulting Jeff Parkinson at a subsequent rally. A charge which the OPP refused to lay and that Parkinson had to go to court to lay privately. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty. This one is long so that you too can experience the tension in the air and see the environment that we have to function in while trying to bring about an end to race based ...
