Vladimir Vysotskij Tribute

Here is a song ("Chuzhoj Dom" - "The Foreign House"), typical of the style of the great Russian singer and poet Vladimir Vysotskij. Vladimir Semyonovich Vysotskij (sometimes spelled Vyssotskij, Vysotzkij, Vyssotzkij, Visotskij, Vissotskij, Visotzkij, Vissotzkij, Vysotsky, Vyssotsky, Vysotzky, Vyssotzky, Vysotski, Vyssotski, Vysotzki, Vyssotzki, Visotsky, Vissotsky, Visotzky, Vissotzky, Visotski, Vissotski, Visotzki, Vissotzki, in Russian Влади́мир Семёнович Высо́цкий) (1938 - 1980) was perhaps the brightest artistic mind in the former Soviet Union. A highly anti-establishemnt song-writer and singer, he became somewhat of a folk hero. His main occupation was as a lead actor at the Taganka Theatre in Moscow, where he became particularly famous for playing Hamlet in an off-stream performance of Shakespeare's play. Vysotskij appeared in several movies. He also wrote songs and soundracks for many movies and often sang them himself. Being in a constant conflict with Soviet authorities resulted in periodic bans of his songs. He became known for his unique singing style and for his lyrics, which incorporated social and political commentary into often humorous street vocabulary. His lyrics resonated with millions of Soviet people in every corner of the country; his songs were sung at house parties and amateur concerts. He died at age 42 in a hospital in Moscow during the 1980 Olympic Games. It was estimated that over one million people attended Vysotskij's funeral, almost as many ...

Vladimir Vysotsky - Truth and Lie | "Правда и Ложь"

Sergei Roy. Translation, 1990 Truth walked the earth once in fine clothes - which she used to wear Only to please all the poor and the cripples in their plight. Crude Lie decoyed tender Truth one night into her lair, Telling her, Why don't you stay at my place overnight? Gullible Truth went to bed and slept quietly and soundly, Dribbling saliva, and smiling a radiant smile. Crude Lie first hogged all the blankets and then started sucking At Truth's lifeblood, feeling as pleased as Punch all the while. Then she rose swiftly and made a crude face at the other: Ha! Just a dame! What's so special about this damn bitch? Truth or Lie, there is no difference at all, whatever - If you undress them, of course - you can't tell which is which. Then golden ribbons she nimbly pulled out of the tresses. Put on the dress and the shoes that the other one wore, Picked up the money, the watch and the papers, with curses Spat on the floor, coarsely swore, and skipped out of the door. Truth in the morning woke up, and her losses discovered, And felt amused as she looked at herself in the light: Somebody'd got hold of soot and her body had covered In dirty streaks, but the rest - more or less - looked all right. Truth merely laughed when they stoned her, and told those dense people: "These are all lies, and the fine clothes Lie's wearing are mine." But a report was made out by a couple of cripples Who called her all the bad names they could think of, the swine. They called her bitch, and much ...

Vladimir Vissotsky - La lettre | "Письмо перед боем"

Yves Desrosiers.

Vladimir Vysotsky - Sean Connery In Moscow | "Джеймс Бонд"

George Tokarev. Translation, 2001 Edited by Robert Titterton When fame became impossible to bear He hid away in Maine or Delaware, Or, maybe, in another rustic state. He was that 007 agent, James Bond, a spy, a living movie legend, Which only Hollywood was able to create! The guy was so renowned, He simply had no match. With fame and glory crowned - It often made him retch! A demigod! It's funny, But here I'll speak up - Marcello Mastroiani Against him was a pup! Avoiding fans, he sat inside his villa, (A loving mob, he knew, could be a killer!) Though it's dead boring being a recluse... But none would jump on you with hugs and cheers And no one would tear for souvenirs Your pants and shirts and even old shoes! But in the movies never His actor's fire cooled - Intelligences ever By him were stuffed and fooled. He walked in skins and even In ashtrays often slept, Seducing lots of women, And never getting trapped! One day a famous Russian film director Invited this extraordinary actor Into the film he was about to start. Reluctant to be met by shrieking crowds, James Bond put on some dirty woolen shrouds - Fans all the same would tear them apart! When he was leaving there, The fans besieged the plane. Each hippie with long hair Shaved off his dirty mane. Bond's watch and even mantle Were gone on the attack, And later fans dismantled That concrete runway track! In Moscow, hiding face behind the collar, He tipped a porter with a crumpled dollar - His advent was quite calm and ...
