euronews the network - What if the UN recognised an independent Palestinian state?

After decades of Israeli occupation, years of violent intifadas and failed peace efforts, the Palestinians prepare to seek UN recognition as an independent state. For the Palestinians, it's a race against time while Israel builds more settlements in the West Bank that could leave a future Palestine in tatters. Time is not on the side of Israel either, as the faster growing Palestinian population could turn the Jewish state into an apartheid state. ... www.euronews.net

Palestinian mother about terrorist "Martyr" son: He wanted 70 wives

palwatch.org palwatch.org Palestinian Authority television interviews the mother of a terrorist "Martyr." The mother explains that her son chose to die as a Martyr because he was not satisfied with having one wife, but wanted 70. This refers to the 72 Dark-Eyed Virgins who, according to Islamic tradition, marry the Martyrs in Paradise. This video demonstrates that the PA has successfully taught Palestinian youth the values of violence and Martyrdom. Transcript: Mother of terrorist "Martyr": "People always told me, 'Marry him off, so he will bring you happiness.' I said to him (my son), 'I want to marry you off.' He said, 'Are you laughing at me? Just one wife?' I asked him, 'What do you want? Four, according to tradition?' He said: 'I won't rest until I have 70 [wives].' 'I want 70', he told me." [PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 2, 2011]

"Martyr" is "groom" on way to "wedding" in song at Palestinian cultural festival

palwatch.org A song broadcast on official Palestinian Authority television promotes violence and Martyrdom-death. In the song, the Martyr's mother celebrates her son's death and calls him a hero. According to Islamic belief, the Martyr (Shahid) marries 72 Dark-Eyed Virgins in Paradise. The video is an example of the indoctrination of Palestinians to seek Shahada and shows how the PA honors Martyrs as role models and expect parents to gladly sacrifice their children . Transcript: "He sacrificed his life for the land. They wrapped him in white cloth with a flower. He shouted and said: "How sweet is Martyrdom." Meeting his Lord was his choice. He adorned his land with the purest blood. Tears for him are [tears of] joy. [His] mother makes sounds of joy. [The Martyr] a groom and his wedding - Martyrdom and heroism. Oh hero, rest in peace, do not worry." [PA TV (Fatah), Sept. 14, 2011]

Palestinian children ride obstacle course to school - 30 Sep 09

Unco-operative donkeys and checkpoints manned by armed soldiers are not obstacles most students have to face on their way to school. But for some Palestinian bedouin children living in the occupied West Bank, they are everyday challenges on their journey to get an education, as Al Jazeera's Clayton Swisher finds in the town of Tubas.

My Name Is Palestine - Sydneyvision 2011 finalist

In December 2010, Marrickville Council became the first local council in Australia to support the Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. Through the council's longstanding sister city relationship with Bethlehem, many of the councillors had seen first hand the injustices suffered by Palestinians in their daily life. Several months of intense media attention, political pressure and personal threats to the councillors followed. In April 2011, Council voted to maintain the original decision to support the BDS but also decided not to follow through with action. I live in Marrickville. I feel passionately for the plight of the Palestinians - the forced home demolitions, the wall that snakes through their communities, the exclusion from Jewish-only roads, the many checkpoints and road blockages that make daily life difficult and unpredictable. I am really proud that my council took this stand . It in no way is a stand against the right of Israel to exist; it is simply a stand in favour of the rights of the Palestinian people.
