IHS's Randolph Says Dubai Sovereign Risk Is 'Overblown'

Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Jan Randolph, head of the sovereign risk group at IHS Global Insight, talks with Bloomberg's Mark Barton about Dubai's proposal to delay debt payments and the role neighboring emirate Abu Dhabi may play in easing the crisis. The state-controlled Dubai World, with $59 billion of liabilities, will ask creditors for a standstill agreement as it negotiates to extend maturities, including $3.52 billion of Islamic bonds due Dec. 14 from its property unit Nakheel PJSC, Dubais Department of Finance said yesterday. 28 MARCH 2011 Alain Robèrt Climbs World's Tallest Building Burj Khalifa DUBAI Alain Robert, known as the French Spiderman, successfully scaled the world's highest building in Dubai Monday. Robert's climb of the 2717-foot-tall Burj Khalifa tower took more than six hours, AP reports. Robert, who is 48 and has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers, usually does not use any equipment. For this climb, to comply with organizers' rules, he used a rope and harness. Here is a list of Robert's notable climbs. The climb coincided with the tenth annual Education Without Borders conference in Dubai and was intended to inspire the more than 2000 students who attended the event, Gulf News reports. "I'm doing this to show the students there is no edge or borders and to inspire people to break the mold and not limit themselves," said Robert. "Part of my message is not only to follow your heart but try to innovate in all things you do." "I climb because I need to find something I enjoy in life and I enjoy climbing buildings," he continued. Robert has the nickname Spiderman because when he climbs he wears an outfit similar to the fictional superhero. Robert made the climb despite windy conditions. By the time he finished, around midnight, he was climbing in the dark. The climber was fined by a Malaysian court after he scaled the Petronas Twin Towers, which has 88 floors, in September 2009 with his bare hands in less than two hours

The Dubai Mall is the world's largest shopping mall based on total area and sixth largest by gross leasable area. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, it is part of the Burj Khalifa complex, the 20-billion-dollar project has 1200 shops. Access to the mall is provided via Doha Street, rebuilt as a double-decker road in April 2009. Twice delayed, Dubai Mall opened on November 4, 2008, with about 600 retailers, marking the world's largest-ever mall opening in retail history. However it is not the largest in gross leasable space, and is surpassed in that category by several malls including the South China Mall, which is the world's largest, Golden Resources Mall, CentralWorld, SM City North Edsa, and SM Mall of Asia. The Dubai Mall has recorded a visitor turn-out of more than 60000 tickets sold for the Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre in the first five days, following its opening. The Dubai Mall hosted over 37 million visitors in its first year of operation, and attracts more than 750000 visitors every week.
