The opening weekend for Dubai Metro proved to be a bonanza for the new retail outlets located at Mall of the Emirates (MoE) Metro link. The stores reported a huge footfall as residents flocked to experience the new service, with Mall of the Emirates one of the most popular destinations among the 10 stations now open on the Red Line. Among the new businesses that have opened their doors along the link include seven retailers that are new to Mall of the Emirates Home Sweet Home, Emax, E-City, Paperchase, Borders Express, Cold Stone Creamery and Nokia while Jacky's and Better Life have relocated to the area and UAE Exchange now has its second outlet at the mall. "We've found that our Metro link stores are proving not only popular with visitors using the new service, but also with shoppers who come to the centre by other means," said Fuad Sharaf, Vice-President of Mall of the Emirates. "We designed it to be much more than a mere access route to the trains and it is clear that it is being seen more as a shopping extension to the mall by our customers," he said . The new 1753 square metre area facility has become one of the busiest of the new Metro walkways, with customers pouring through it when the service opened last Friday. The extension continues beyond the retail area to connect Mall of the Emirates to its Metro stop, transporting passengers using a completely covered air-conditioned travellator system. Most travelers to a new country usually want to know what they must do or not do in order not to put a foot wrong and offend the locals. The Mall of the Emirates posts a courtesy policy on its doors and it has a couple of points that are distinctive to the UAE. The blue sign placed on the sliding glass doors advises visitors to: "Please wear respectful clothing" "No kissing or overt displays of affection" "No smoking in the mall" "No consumption of alcohol in the mall" "No dangerous activities, ie sport games, rollerblading or skateboarding" "Courtesy policies have always applied to malls in the MAF Shopping Malls portfolio [Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls]," said Fouad Sharaf, Vice President of Mall of the Emirates. Asked about what they meant by "respectful clothing", Sharaf said, "The mall is a place for enjoyment and relaxation, but also a place where families and children come. If any visitor is overly-exposed, our security guards will make them aware that it is not culturally acceptable. The policy is enforced in a positive and constructive way." Asked if he feels that this policy may have a negative effect on visitors, Sharaf said: "It will only have a positive effect because ours has always been a mall for all age groups and backgrounds and steps like these will only further enhance the goodwill among shoppers and the cultural understanding of one another."

Flashmob "Mall of the Emirates" Dubai 5 December 2011 Against Diabetes

On December 5, 2011, while the World Diabetes Congress was in session in Dubai, over 400 dancers assembled in Dubai's Mall of the Emirates around the Diabetes Village, for an impromptu flashmob, one of the largest the GCC had witnessed. Most of the dancers were volunteers and they wanted to focus the region's attention on the growing threat of diabetes in this part of the world. Loud and clear!

On Thursday 11th June, Mall of the Emirates hosted a twelve-hour long celebration featuring shopping discounts, raffle draws, and spectacular giveaways to mark the opening of Dubai Summer Surprises. Details of the event known as June 11 Surprises were revealed on the 9th of June at the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, as Dubai geared up for 65 days of summer festivities with the theme Surprising Dubai. The press conference was attended by Fuad Sharaf, Vice President, Mall of the Emirates and Laila Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Shopping Festival Office, and a host of other officials. It is a great honor for Mall of the Emirates to host the opening ceremony of DSS for the second time in its four year history said Fuad Sharaf. We hosted our first DSS opening ceremony in 2006, the Mall of the Emirates' very first year of operation and this years opening on June 11 will be on an even larger scale. It will be an entire day dedicated to fun, festivities and surprises and we would like to invite the residents and tourists of Dubai to come and experience this special occasion he added. June 11 Surprises stretched over the course of a whole day with shopping surprises and giveaways worth thousands of dirhams every hour. The mall was transformed into a festive area of shows, prizes, entertainment and simply put, shopping at its very best.
