| Sovjet Record Production master 7104/2, rec. Moscow(?), 1938. N. Semernickij, P. Nečaev, A. Akimov, N. Solovinsij (voc), A. Ryazanov (piano, arr.). This seems to be one of the groups that got their inspiration from the sensationally successful Russian tour of the exiled Comedian Harmonists. That this was rather brave at a time when Stalinist terror was at it worst needs hardly to be emphasized. So very few of these groups ever recorded, and this may be the only genuine Russian cowboy song from the 1930s. As always, any information on the group would be most welcome! Please pardon the quality of the label scan - the original is gold on green and impossible to scan, so I had to play with it a little bet to make it sort of readable. |
