| The fifth installment of "Jeff & Christine Learn to Paint" -- Wall Preparation This episode joins Jeff & Christine at their new house where they are getting ready to paint their wall! For the best results, you need to prepare the wall first! Preparing the wall: 1.) Floor covering -- It is best to use a canvas drop cloth as it is eco-friendly and will last a lifetime of projects! 2.) Remove all outlet covers from your wall! 3.) Wash the wall with TSP (trisodium phosphate) -- removes all dirt and dust from the wall! Use an eco-friendly TSP, it is nice to the environment and doesn't need to be rinsed off! 4.) Filling holes -- the most common holes are from push pins or hanging pictures, a. Remove any high spots, loose paint or rough edges around the hole with a sanding block or with a 120 grit piece of sand paper b. Add a small amount of filling compound (Use DAP Drydex, it goes on pink and dries to a nice white so you know when it is ready to sand!) to a 2" putty knife. Apply pressure to the putty knife, forcing the compound into the small hole. c. Allow the compound to dry. d. When the compound is dry, sand off area around hole and any rough edges and apply more if needed. 5.) Taping: Tape the edges of the wall as well as around outlets -- use Frog Tape, it is used with water based products and once it gets wet, it seals witch means less bleeding! Now your wall is ready for priming and painting! Tune in on June 1st for an episode on Prime, Paint & Finish! |
