Marietta Dail Journal Article 74.125.47.132 Published: 07/17/2009 By Katy Ruth Camp krcamp@mdjonline.com MARIETTA - Fifty-six Cobb students, a dozen exhausted parents and an unbelievable amount of makeup, props and handmade costumes will come together for Act 3 Productions' rendition of "The Wiz" this weekend. The high-energy musical made famous by Michael Jackson's performance as the Scarecrow will be brought to life at Walton High School, 1590 Bill Murdock Road in east Cobb, with performances at 2 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday, and a 2 pm matinee on Sunday. Students are $10 adults are $15. Act 3 is the brainchild of a small group of Cobb parents who were looking for an artistic outlet for their children and other students at Dickerson Middle School. From there, it expanded to include any local students from elementary schools to colleges seeking to be involved in a performing arts program. "I couldn't believe when my family moved here from Potomac that there was virtually no youth arts scene," said Patti Mactas, president of Act 3 and director for all of its performances. "All of the kids were doing cheerleading or soccer, but no one really offered a performing arts program. So the kids really didn't have a choice. So, when Dickerson PTSA approached some of us moms about putting on a show, we agreed and were shocked to have over 140 kids audition for our first show. From ... |
