| Мурка (Murka) is a chanson telling the story of Маруся Никифорова (Marusya Nikiforova), who was one of the leaders of the Anarchist movement in Ukraine during the Russian Civil War. The Anarchists ("black" army) led by (Нестор Махно) Nestor Mahno were fighting both the Communists and the Monarchists. The song starts with the words "Прибыла в Одессу банда из Амура, в банде были урки, шулера. Банда занималась тёмными делами, и за ней следило Губчека" (A band of thieves came from Amur to Odessa. The band was involved in "black" [Anarchist] activities, and was perused by the CheKa [Communist secret police]). Мурка (Murka) is a name that Russian speaking people give to pets, but it also can be used as a short form for Marusya or Maria. It is a song belonging to a sub-genre of the "Russian Chanson", called Блатная песня (Criminal song). The song is from the anthological album "20 лучших блатных песен - Жулик" issued by the "Русский Компакт Диск" company.
