I know what a nuisance this stuff can be so I wanted to let you guys know that there are a couple of good effective ways to get rid of it. Firstly I want to stress that just because you have this stuff in your tank, it doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. This can grow in any tank. Even in ones with no nutrients. Blue green algae is actually a form of bacteria called cyanobacteria. It is an infection that needs treating otherwise it will kill your plants and make your tank look awful. There is nothing that will eat this stuff as it is highly toxic to all aquatic life. There are 2 good ways to treat cyanobacteria. You can either kill it with an antibiotic called Maracyn. or you can use Hydrogen Peroxide (which is my preferred method.) both will work well, but you need to be cautious when using these products. keep an eye on the fish as an overdose can be fatal.
