Tour de Romandie 2012 Day 1 Prologue Lausanne

The Tour de Romandie is a stage race which is part of the UCI World Tour. It runs in the Romandie region, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It began in 1947, to coincide with the 50-year anniversary of Swiss Cycling. The race traditionally starts with an individual time trial prologue in Geneva and ends with another individual time-trial in the hilly terrains in Lausanne. The final time-trial traditionally starts in the stadium north of Lausanne, goes downhill southwards to Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), and makes its way back uphill to the stadium again. Not surprisingly, the winner and several of the top-ten finishers are usually excellent time trialists. The course of the race usually winds northwards towards the Jura mountains and Alpine mountain ranges of western Switzerland. Tour de Romandie. Prologue à Lausanne, 3,34 km. 159 coureurs au départ. Une seule équipe n'est pas au complet, Lotto-Belisol. Le prologue est de retour à Lausanne après 2008 où le Tchèque Frantisek Rabon s'était imposé devant le Français Sandy Casar. Cette année, le victoire est revenue au Britannique Geraint Thomas de l'équipe Sky. Ce prologue sera très fortement influencé par la météo. La première moitié des coureurs a pu s'élancer sur des routes sèches mais tout de même balayées par un fort vent. Les conditions se sont cependant détériorées au fil des départs si bien que les coureurs partis dans les quarante ou cinquante derniers ont trouvé des conditions toujours plus délicates. Le ...

Background: Ananta is a Sanskrit word that means the infinite. When the SEIKO design team embarked on this creation, they were told to build a watch that included the most advanced technology and craftsmanship; 'dedication to infinite perfection'. The watches engine is Seiko's Spring Drive; a part electrical movement. It uses a mainspring, barrel, automatic winder and stem winding like in a mechanical watch to store the watch energy. The conventional escapement is replaced with a device that Seiko calls a Tri-synchro Regulator to regulate the unwinding of the mainspring. April, 2010. ... Montreux Casino was built in 1881 and had modifications made to it in 1903. Throughout the twentieth century, the site played host to many great symphony orchestras and well-known conductors. By the late 1960s, jazz, blues and rock artists began to perform there. In 1967 the Casino became the venue for the Montreux Jazz Festival, which was the brainchild of music promoter Claude Nobs. ► Bentley Supersports Ice Speed Record 2011 (205 mph)

Finland's four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen drove a Bentley Continental Supersports convertible on the hazardous frozen waters of the Baltic Sea, off the coast of Finland, at a breathtaking 205.48 mph (330.695 km/h) to set a new world speed record on ice. Kankkunen was in irresistible form with his all-wheel drive, 6-litre, 12-cylinder Continental Supersports convertible which, in line with the Company's CO2 strategy, ran on biofuel. The world's fastest soft top enabled Juha to shatter his own 2007 world ice speed record of 199.83 mph (321.6 km/h) set in the Continental GT at the same location. With the help of his own experienced team and Bentley engineers, Kankkunen overcame the challenges of temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees, sudden snow blizzards and potentially dangerous crosswinds on the 16.5km track on a 70cm-thick layer of sea ice. The record attempt was driven on a 1000m long measured distance with the speed certified by officials from the Finland Traffic Police. His new world record was based on the average of two runs in opposite directions with measured speeds ratified by a representative of The Guinness Book of Records. As with the previous record-breaking drive in the Continental GT the Anglo-Finnish team used a car with minimum modification. A fully-welded, heavy-duty safety roll-cage, along with Pirelli winter tyres (Pirelli SottoZero II 275/40R20) and a rear bumper-mounted parachute provided reassurance in case of an emergency.
