| With tons of Asian and Mexican restaurants ensconced in Las Vegas I was getting desperate to find something more Slavic. I guess I kinda missed potatoes in 20 different forms both solid and liquid and Yelped for some advice. Several people extolled the menu at Tverskaya, so I went. I'm from the NY area and get to eat a lot of Slavic/Russian/Turkish/Greek/etc cuisine so I'm pretty hip to what I slide down my gullet. To be safe, I tried ordering some of my favorites; vareniki, Olivier Salad, Stroganoff and was pleasantly surprised by how well this SSR kept to the traditional recipes of Mother Russia. Vareniki are like little raviolis or dumplings that can be filled with a variety of fillings. I opted for the potato and onion, a traditional dumpling that varies little between Russia, Poland and Romanian lands. They were drizzled with sour cream sauce and absolutely delish. The Olivier Salad (it's spelled differently at LADA in Cliffside Park, NJ), was as it should be, with chunks of roasted chicken chopped carrots and pickles and eggs. It's traditionally a holiday fare but it is popular. An interesting shrimp dish (shrimps are not usually found in a Russian's diet but here, the Tverskaya Shrimp had an Afghan flavor or maybe it was the barbecue. I liked it. Our main dish, the Beef Stroganoff was a variant of the Turkish version with some paprika and tomato sauce giving it the light orange look.
