Las fachadas se presentan más estilizadas, aunque aún muestran elementos almohadillados, y desaparecen torreones, saeteras y fosos. Buena muestra de estos palacios la encontramos en Florencia: el palacio Medici, obra maestra de Michelozzo, construido en 1444, o el palacio Strozzi, levantado entre 1489 y 1507 por Benedetto da Maiano. En Roma destaca el palacio Farnesio, construido por Antonio de Sangallo para Alejandro Farnesio desde 1540, y concluido por Miguel Angel. El esquema palacial no es igual en todas las ciudades italianas como podemos observar en Venecia, obligados sus palacios a presentar una disposición diferente debido a la geografía del lugar. Buena muestra de los palacios venecianos son la Ca Vendramin-Calergi, construido por Mauro Codussi para la familia Loredan entre 1481 y 1509, y el palacio Corner, iniciado en 1537 por Jacopo Sansovino. Tomando como modelo las villas romanas, las poderosas familias italianas también se construyeron excelentes casas de campo.
