The World Tomorrow: Occupy

The Occupy movement has united hundreds of thousands across the world in protest against economic and social injustice. In this episode, key Occupy activists talk global finance, politics, and direct action. The former Deutsche Bank building in London plays host to this weeks discussion, which sees Julian discuss the origins, targets, and future of the Occupy movement with five high profile activists. The roots of the movement lie in the growing outrage many felt in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis. However, according to Alexa O'Brien from Occupy New York and US Day of Rage, they are also responding to a "Global Political Crisis, because our institutions no longer function." Aaron Peters from Occupy London agrees that political failure is a "global phenomenon", with power shifting to unaccountable non-democratic institutions. However, the last word goes to David Graeber from Occupy New York, who jokes "there's nothing that terrifies the American government so much as the threat of democracy breaking out in America."

Nigel Farage on the "EU Titanic" and the "Rebirth of National Socialism in Europe"

Follow us @ twitter.com twitter.com Welcome to Capital Account. It's Europe Day! And what a day it is, at a time when the political parties seeing gains in multiple countries are those who want less Europe, not more. In fact, some of them, like Golden Dawn want a rejection of all of Europe. We speak with Euroskeptic member of European parliament and leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, Nigel Farage about his recent speech in Brussels, his non-wine tasting event and his prospects for the European Union's future. Nigel Farage has talked often about the lack of democracy, the rise of technocracy, and predicted a country like Greece was headed towards some kind of revolution. We also speak to him about his party's recent results in local elections in the United Kingdom, where UKIP had its best showing ever. For years, since the early 1990s when Farage was a founding member of the UK Independence party, Farage has been a Euroskeptic, pushing for the UK to pull out of the EU. For years he was a lone voice in European Parliament calling the Eurozone project a disaster. And sticking to Europe, is Greece the poster child for what happens when the price mechanism of democracy, which has been suppressed by technocracy finally unleashes itself? Will technocrats, eurocrats, central bankers and big money succeed in manipulating it? Are we seeing the rise of national socialism in Europe and has the the EU titanic really hit the iceberg, as Nigel Farage put it during his ...

Noam Chomsky on Ron Paul's 9/11 Theories: "What He Said Is Completely Uncontroversial"

DemocracyNow.org - During the most recent Republican presidential debate on Monday, September 12th, Congressman Ron Paul of Texas drew boos and jeers from the crowd and his fellow debaters for his views on the roots of 9/11 attacks. Dr. Paul criticized US foreign policy as the catalyst stating, "we're under great threat because we occupy so many countries... We have to be honest with ourselves. What would we do if another country, say China, did to us what we do to all those countries over there?" For more, Democracy Now! spoke with Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Noam Chomsky. Dr. Chomsky responded to Dr. Paul's comments by reciting the history of antagonism to US policy, concluding: "I think what he said is completely uncontroversial. You can read it in government documents." EXCERPT OF RUSH TRANSCRIPT: AARON MATÉ (DN! Co-Host): Well, Noam, you mentioned the changes in discourse between 10 years ago and today. And actually, this issue of the reasons behind 9/11 came up last night at the Republican presidential debate. Congress Member Ron Paul of Texas drew boos from the crowd and a rebuke from other candidates on the podium when he criticized US foreign policy in discussing the roots of 9/11. REP. RON PAUL: We're under great threat because we occupy so many countries. We're in 130 countries. We have 900 bases around the world. We're going broke. The purpose of al-Qaeda was to attack us, invite us over there, where they can ...

Nigel Farage: Wake up to the misery you're inflicting on millions!

www.ukipmeps.org • European Parliament, Strasbourg - 27 September 2011 • Speaker Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP, Co-President of the EFD Group in the European Parliament (Europe of Freedom and Democracy) • Debate: Question Hour with the President of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker • Transcript: Nigel Farage: Mr Juncker, as President of the Eurogroup, your detachment from reality is almost unbelievable. You're behaving like a political ostrich, pretending none of it is happening. You've just told us just a few moments ago that Greece fundamentally has no problems because she's a member of the eurozone. It's just deluded. And you wrote recently, that the euro's thirteen-year history is a success story. Well, it's a very odd kind of success, isn't it? And actually, saying that beggars belief and I think hardly makes you credible. I think it's about time that you and others in this room woke up to the fact that we are inflicting misery on millions of people; through unemployment, through poverty, through a lack of democracy, and that it's an error to try and keeping countries trapped inside the euro prison. The recent proposal is that Greece should write down her debt by 50% and remain a member of the eurozone. Surely, Mr Juncker if that happenes the same would happen to Portugal and Ireland too. Do you think it's possible for any member state of the euro to write down their debts and stay a member of the euro? Jean Claude Juncker: Mr President, I didn't say that Greece has no ...

Nigel Farage: Greece under Commission-ECB-IMF Dictatorship

www.ukipmeps.org • European Parliament, Strasbourg - 14 September 2011 • Speaker Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP, Co-President of the EFD Group in the European Parliament (Europe of Freedom and Democracy) • Debate: European Council and Commission statements - Economic crisis and the euro (in the presence of President Barroso) - 'Blue Card' question by Phillippe Lamberts (Belgoium) - Greens • Speech Transcript: I noticed during your speech Mr Barroso there was an all pervading sense of gloom. I saw for the first time, even your supporters shaking their heads, they don't believe it what you are saying, the European people don't believe in what you are saying, and I don't really think even you now believe in what you are saying. We all know that Greece is going to default; the end game for Greece is near. And you can't say you were not warned. You were told that Treaties were fatally flawed, you were all told that Greece should never have joined the Euro and when I stood up here and talked about Greek bond spreads you treated me with such utter derision it was as if I had just been let out of the local lunatic asylum. No, you have been warned all the way through. So now what you have got is Economic Governance and everybody here on the front row supports more European Economic Governance. What is European Economic Governance? I'll tell you what it is. It is a plane landing at Athens airport out of which get an official from the Commission, an official from the ECB and an official ...

4 pigs and a square/ english version

Μultimedia documentary of Athens Syntagma square Media Center. Starring Pigoulinos, representing the people of PIGS realdemocracygr.wordpress.com www.amesi-dimokratia.org There is a plan to strangle financially the nations so that the rich become richer and the poor poorer. A "select" few want to control entire states. To start with, the banks set in motion in each country the plan for the extreme accumulation of debt, assisted by corrupt governments. Then comes the IMF ... Those who collaborated with the profiteers; those who bailed-out the banks; those getting ready to sell out the national property to the vultures that created the crisis; those who governed but failed to claim reparations for the World War II damages from Germany continuing instead -because of bribery- to buy weaponry from the "ally"; all these who undermined the public interest should be accused of high treason. Instead unemployment increases dramatically, poverty goes rampant, businesses close down, the public sector shrinks, social welfare --education, healthcare, pensions -- are brought to nought, labour and social rights are cut down, justice disappears, equality is yet to be found, it is a struggle to maintain dignity with the cuts in wages and pensions, the country's resources and its property go to private hands, the nation's sovereignty is undermined, the very citizens themselves end up the property of those who rule the world. EVERYBODY KNEW WHAT WOULD FOLLOW. Because all those who governed ...
