| Let's start with the load, the case is a once fired LC 06 brass, 690 grain South African ball projoctile, 215 grains of WC 860. I had been getting quite a few rounds with incipient head case separation after firing in this upper. I lower the powder grains and that decreased the number of head case separaion problems, but it was still happening. I emailed Safety harbor and asked what they use to headspace, they said a 50 BMG gauge. I suspect the headspace was out of spec from Safety Harbor, from the get go, on this upper. I've got approximately 75 to 90 rounds through it. We went out Thanksgiving day to kill some paper targets. My nephew was in town and wanted to shoot the 50 cal. so after shooting the other guns we brought he to shoot the 50. I told him, thankfully, let me take the first shot . had 3 in the magazine chambered the first round, told my nephew "stand behind me a few feet" pulled the trigger, and booom (not the typical 50 BMG BOOM). When I came to, I felt blood running down my face, seen blood through the sleeve of my shirt, and on my trigger hand. The guns were thrown in the truck and we headed to the hospital. I want other people looking into a 50 BMG upper to know my exprience with the Safety Harbor SHTF 50. BEWARE! |
