"No NATO, No War": US Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan Return War Medals at NATO Summit

DemocracyNow.org - Democracy Now! broadcasts from Chicago, site of the largest NATO summit in the organization's six-decade history. On Sunday, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, as well as members of Afghans For Peace, led a peace march of thousands of people. Iraq Veterans Against the War held a ceremony where nearly 50 veterans discarded their war medals by hurling them down the street in the direction of the NATO summit. We hear the soldiers' voices as they return their medals one by one from the stage. "I am giving back my global war on terror service medal in solidarity with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan," said Jason Heard, a former combat medic who spent 10 years in the US Army. "I am deeply sorry for the destruction that we have caused in these countries and around the globe." Kurdish refugees from Syria languish in Iraq

While focus is on the uprising in Syria which started almost a year ago, Syrian Kurds revolted years before. Riots in the mainly Kurdish city of Qamishli in 2004 were crushed by security forces. Rights groups say at least 30 people were killed in that crackdown. Thousands of Kurds crossed the border into Iraq and have been living as refugees since. Al Jazeera's Jane Arraf reports from a refugee camp in Moqableh in northern Iraq.

Iraq on the brink of civil war

After almost 10 years in Iraq, all US troops have left. The US government spent over $800 billion and lost approximately the lives of 5000 US troops in Iraq while fighting the war on terror. Today in Baghdad, 14 bombings rattled the city, killing 65 people according to some reports. Are the people of Iraq in worse shape than before the US invasion? Brian Becker, national coordinator for the ANSWER Coalition, joins us to analyze who benefited from the war in Iraq and if the people of Iraq are better off. Follow Liz on Twitter at twitter.com

Syrian Girl - Syria's Relationships With Turkey & Iraq

Just over a year ago, Turkey and Syria were best friends. What Happened? Turkey has been supporting the armed opposition to the Syrian Government. Iraq is showing solidarity with Syria because Iran is telling it to. Syrian Girl does not think much of the Iraqi Government which was shaking hands with Condoleezza Rice.

Syrian Girl - Syria, Sectarianism & US Iraq Withdrawal Reasons

Iraq traded Iran for the US, and it still aspires for independence, yet it is in Syria's advantage now that the US has left, suspicion for sectarian strife is still on the US. Interesting how the resistance was not sectarian only a few years ago. There is also some discussion of the role of women in Syria. "Turkey is Syria's enemy number 1 at the moment." "The Iraqi Resistance is the reason the US left." ... More videos on Syria here: www.youtube.com . Donations to Morris: www.paypal.com .
