Kadhal Pagadai - Episode 30

Kadal Pagdai is a romantic comedy set in Konar Colony, a typical middle class society of India. Rajbabu is the protagonist employed in a Chit Fund Company and staying with his elder brother Mohanbabu, a henpecked husband, who works in the Accountant General's office as a clerk and has no aspirations in life. Rajbabu is in love with Sithara, who is an orphan residing in a Working Women's Hostel. Mohanbabus wife Vanaja, is a classic example of a house wife, who has lots of wants and desires and is never tired of drawing comparisons with her co-residents. The Colony has various other residents who add color to the story and one among them is Thangam who nurtures a one sided love for Rajbabu. She is however oblivious that Sudharshan and Jayaraj, both residents of the same colony, are secretly in love with her. Sitharas roommate, Sundari, is madly in love with Jayaraj, and waits for an opportune moment to disclose her love to him. With all these characters in various states of disclosed and undisclosed love, positioned respectively as triangles or quadrangles, the setting is right for a plethora of poignant emotions and hilarious moments. Into this scenario, comes Ramana, a multi-millionaire who is head-over-heels in love with Sithara from the day he saw her in their college and is highly confident that he can win her over. Hero

Notorious criminal Pasha (Amrish Puri) has been sent to jail by the former inspector general of Police Shrikanth Mathur (Shammi Kapoor). An enraged Pasha decides to get even with Shrikanth and hence asks his trusted protégé Jackie (Jackie Shroff) to carry out a plan to get him released from the prison. As directed, Jackie abducts Shrikanth's daughter Radha (Meenakshi Shashadri) in the garb of a police officer. Radha is made to believe that Jackie and his gang of goons are her protectors and are keeping her in the jungle for her safety as her house has been taken over by bandits. As the days passed, Jackie gets increasingly drawn towards Radha and eventually both fall in love with each other. Radha discovers about Jackie's truth but still stays by his side. She even makes Jackie surrender which leads him to spend two years in jail. Radha meanwhile returns to her home and narrates about her love to her brother Damodar (Sanjeev Kumar). Thwarted plans of his release makes Pasha angry and he vows to take revenge from Srikanth and Jackie. Will Jackie and Radha meet? Will their love be accepted by all? What will Pasha do to extract his revenge?

Yaare Neenu Cheluve

It's a multistar movie.It is a straight remake of the Tamil hit "Kaadal Kottai". Director Rajendra Babu can be credited as the captain for a film which is technically and musically superior. The film is entertaining and interesting in its own right. "Yaare Neenu Cheluve" almost reminds one of an old-world romance. Here the main hero Surya (Ravichandran) and Kamli (Sangeeta) fall in love and romance each other through letters without having seen or met each other even once. And the first time they meet and get to know each other is the climax of the film. This is the absorbing aspect of the film which keeps it going till then. Ramesh in an even more brief appearance as an aspiring suitor to the heroine, distinguishes himself for what he is a natural actor who can breathe life into every movement and emotion of his. Prakash Rai as the heroine's brother-in-law, makes a forceful impact. His larger-than-life screen presence and impressive dialogue delivery coupled with the nuances of expression make for some riveting and touching scenes in the film. It is worth making that trip to the theatre to see Rai if only for a while.One elementary aspect, which is the essence of the film, is the tender romance between the lovers.Hamsalekha's music enhances the mood of the film. The songs are celebratory: they are tuneful and more than pleasing, perhaps heralding Hamsalekha once again as a talent after a lean patch. Mumbai Express

The story was Kamal Hasan's idea and is quite fresh - good material for comedy. The story revolves around a group of imcompetant slum-dwellers, lead by Digamber(Vijay Raaz - brialliant as always), who take to kidnapping to raise some quick money. The idea is to kidnap a rich merchant's (played by Shukla, who also wrote the dialogues for the movie) son and demand ransom. But their plan is ill-fated as one of them is hospitalized for an appendicitis operation. The ill man's brother-in-law Avinash (Kamal Hasan) is taken in as a quick replacement. Avinash is an ace motorist who rides his bike in the "Maut-ka-Kuan" (Death-well) and has the earned the epithet of "Mumbai Express". However, Avinash suffers is hard of hearing and is generally clumsy. He also happens to be an innocent youth who has his morals intact. Digamber, desparate to see his plan in action, convinces Avinash to join the team with his half-lies.
