| Thanks for Subscribing, Thumbs Ups & Comments! George Lopez's younger brother, Roger Lopez visits us today to talk about the true history of CInco De Mayo. Many Mexican Americans & Chicanos celebrate this history along with many other Americans, but few know the true story behind the special date in 1862. In 1862, France invaded Mexico in an effort to force all Taco Bells into serving croissants and crepes. They also wanted Mexican citizens to wear berets instead of sombreros. President Pancho Villa famously said "no" and thus began the war. The Mexican Army was led by The Most Interesting Man in the World. After several weeks of fighting, the Mexicans hopped in their lowriders and overpowered the French soldiers mounted on their horses. General Pancho Villa then unleashed his secret weapon, an immense army of Chihuahuas. They gnawed at the feet of French Soldiers, forcing them to surrender and give up their secret recipe for Belgian Waffles. They celebrated by drinking Coronas and eating Chalupas. Today the spirit of Cinco De Mayo is upheld in the lucha libre mathces, where luchadores wear the traditional uniform of the 19th century Mexican military. In addition, the Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzalez is named after famous Mexican freedom fighter Espidio Gonzalez, the fastest army recruit in Mexican history. His war chant of "arriba, arriba, epa, epa, ija" is now synonymous with Mexican pride. Orale! Please remember to Click Thumbs Up, Add this Video to your ... |
