The Scots at Stirling: A History of Britain, England Scotland, Battles & Scottish Accents

www.stirlingcastle.gov.uk Title of Video: The Scots at Stirling: A History of Britain, England Scotland, Battles & Scottish Accents In May, 2010 I collaborated with members of the Edinburgh Cine and Video Society traveling to Stirling Castle in Scotland's central belt as a volunteer for filming a series of live drama theatre renactments by Historic Scotland. This video features the renacting segment on weapons of war where we used five cameras to cover the filming; two static cameras to the left and right of the stage, another at the back of the hall on the balcony, a third to the side in a high alcove and the final camera roaming getting shows of the audience reactions. The renacted event took place in Stirling Scotland. Crew: Alasdair Bryson, Jim Close, Peter Dick, Stewart Emm, Alan Taylor The local history events run by Historic Scotland were to show visitors a taste of what life used to be like long ago, the various weapons at war and styles of battle tactics and revealing the story of the Highlanders and Lowlanders fighting the English army. Stirling was still the central point of Royal administration up until Alexander's death in 1286 where his passing triggered a crisis of the succession to the throne where King Edward the 1st of England was invited to Stirling. However when he arrived, he demanded that Stirling as well as the other Royal Castles be made under his control. Edward had hoped that John Balliol would act as a puppet figure for him but he refused his ...

CIA Archives: Vietnam War Special - Con Thien Battle (1967)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Con Thien (Tiếng Việt: Cồn Tiên, meaning the "Hill of Angels"), was a United States Marine Corps combat base located near the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone about 3 km from North Vietnam. It was the site of fierce fighting from February 1967 through February 1968. In September 1967 the NVA started their major shelling. 152mm howitzers, 120mm and 82mm mortars and 122mm rockets hit the base daily. During the climax of the attack (September 19--27, 1967) over three thousand rounds of artillery pounded the fire base. On September 25, a reported 1200 rounds pounded the hill sides of the 158m mound of red dirt. September and October 2nd Battalion 4th Marines was involved three major battles. Sept 21st the Battle of Phu Oc southeast of Con Thien with the 90th NVA Regiment. Oct 14th the Battle of WashOut Bridge south of Con Thien on route 561 also with 90th NVA Regiment. Oct 25 - 27th the Battle for Hill 48 northeast of Cam Lo. The BN CO was wounded and the BN XO was killed. The Marine Corps rotated battalions in and out of Con Thien every thirty days. The constant shelling and the threat of an NVA assault took a psychological toll on the Marines, the base was nicknamed "Our Turn in the Barrel" and "the Meat Grinder", while the DMZ was said to stand for "Dead Marine Zone." More than 1400 Marines were killed and nearly 9300 wounded in the fighting in and around Con Thien. NVA losses were put at nearly 7600 killed in action and 168 ...

Bruce Jenner and the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada (1976)

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com William Bruce Jenner (born October 28, 1949) is a former US track and field athlete, motivational speaker, socialite and television personality. He is known for having won a gold medal for decathlon in the Montreal 1976 Summer Olympics. Following his Gold medal, his professional career evolved into being a television celebrity. Since the 2007 debut of Keeping Up with the Kardashians he has been known as the step-father of the Kardashian sisters. Jenner placed third in the decathlon at the 1972 US Olympic trials and finished in tenth place at the 1972 Munich games. His success prompted him to devote himself to an intense training regimen, while also selling insurance outside training hours. He acknowledged that he was supported and subsidized by his then wife, Chrystie Crownover, who worked as an airline stewardess. In the era before professionalism was allowed in athletics, this kind of training was unheard of. During that period he spent eight hours a day at the San Jose City College track. Centered around Bert Bonnano, the coach at SJCC, San Jose at the time was a hotbed for training aspiring Olympic athletes, including Jenner, along with Millard Hampton, Andre Phillips, John Powell, Mac Wilkins, Al Feuerbach and others. In 1974 and 1976, Jenner was the American champion in the event. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, he won the gold medal in the Decathlon, setting the world record of 8618 points. The world record was broken ...

CIA Archives: Vietnam War - Battle of Ia Drang Valley (1965 Documentary Film)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Battle of Ia Drang was the first major battle between the United States Army and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) (referred to by US fighting units as the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) during the Vietnam War). The two-part battle took place between November 14 and November 18, 1965, at two landing zones (LZs) northwest of Plei Me in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam (approximately 35 miles south-west of Pleiku). The battle derives its name from the Drang River which runs through the valley northwest of Plei Me, in which the engagement took place. "Ia" means "river" in the local Montagnard language. Representing the American forces were elements of the 1st Battalion and 2nd Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment, and the 5th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The North Vietnamese forces included the 66th and 1st battalion/33rd Regiments of the NVA as well National Liberation Front (NLF) (known world wide as the Viet Cong) of the H15 Battalion. The battle featured close air support by US bombers. Both sides suffered heavy losses and both claimed victory. The US lost 234 dead, with 242 wounded; November 17 was the deadliest ambush for Americans in the entire Vietnam War, with 155 men killed and 126 men wounded. The battle is the subject of the critically acclaimed book We Were Soldiers Once... And Young by Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway. In 2002, Randall Wallace depicted the first part of the battle in the film ...
