Angus McPhee was a crofter from Uist who spent almost 50 years in a Highland psychiatric hospital. During this time he chose not to speak - instead he wove a series of incredible costumes out of grass. These he hung on trees in the hospital grounds.

A High Court judge has recommended that the need for corroboration in Scottish criminal prosecutions should be abolished. Lord Carloway said the current rule which means there must be two sources of incriminating evidence is "archaic" and has "no place in a modern legal system". The proposal comes following a year-long independent review, aimed at overhauling Scots criminal law. In other news; The mother of a toddler who died in a crash on the outskirts of Aberdeen yesterday is fighting for her life in hospital. Her sixteen-month-old son was named today as Callum Bruce - he was taken to hospital after the collision but medics were unable to save him. Police inquiries into the tragedy are continuing. And in sport; Aberdeen striker Mohammed Chalali is pushing for a start against Motherwell this weekend after scoring twice on International duty for Algeria's Olympic team. Plans to build the new Sick Kids hospital at Little France in Edinburgh could be abandoned as a result of a land dispute. NHS Lothian has said it was reviewing all options for the £250m replacement hospital. They're stuck in a stalemate with landowners Consort over the land which the new site would be built on. A man who tried to kill three pregnant women and assaulted a newborn baby will be sentenced later this year. James Paterson was found guilty of attempted murder, assault and rape last month. He was due to be sentenced today but it has been deferred for reports. A clock with no hands or numbers which 'eats time' has gone on display at the National Museum of Scotland. The Midsummer Chronophage is inspired by the idea that everyone experiences time differently.

A Dundee man is fighting for his life after an early morning road crash in the Borders. The 20 year old was driving the car when it crashed on the A74 near Beattock at 4 o'clock. He's being treated at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. In other news; A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of an Angus lorry driver. Gordon Cooper from Montrose was killed on the A9 near Dunkeld two days before Christmas last year. 24 year old fellow lorry driver David MacDonald from Aviemore appeared in private at Perth Sheriff Court today. And in sport; Scotland now know the route they'll have to take to qualify for the TWENTY FOURTEEN World Cup finals in Brazil.
