Birdland - Weather Report (1977)

"Birdland" is a jazz instrumental composition by keyboardist Joe Zawinul that debuted on the seventh album of Zawinul's group Weather Report, "Heavy Weather", in 1977. A jazz-fusion piece, it achieved unusual commercial success and became a jazz standard, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Jazz chart as well as charting high on the Hot 100 and R&B charts, as well. It has entered the repertoire of many groups and bands over the years, including Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson's big band, and The Manhattan Transfer, who recorded a vocalese take on the tune with lyrics by Jon Hendricks. An uptempo version with a rap introduction appears on Quincy Jones' 1989 album "Back On The Block", with vocals by Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. The original version is easily recognized by an artificial harmonic intro played by bassist Jaco Pastorius. "Birdland" was named after the New York City jazz club Birdland on 52nd Street, which in turn was named after jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker, nicknamed 'Bird'. The song is a tribute to Parker and the club that Zawinul frequented as a young musician (and where he met his future wife). "Heavy Weather" is one of the best-sellers in the Columbia jazz catalog, and is on the short list of LP's considered to be the greatest of all jazz-fusion recordings. Thischannel is dedicated to the classic jazz music you've loved for years. The smokin' hot, icy cool jams that still make you tap your feet whenever you hear them ...

Michael Jackson - Bad (Live Bad Tour 1987)

Michael Jackson - Bad (Live Bad Tour 1987 Japan) "Bad" was a 1987 hit recording by American singer Michael Jackson. The song was the second of five Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit singles from the album Bad, and was his seventh number-one single overall. The song was originally intended as a duet with longtime rival Prince, which one can infer with the song's lyrics. Quincy Jones, in an interview included in the special edition of Bad, said that Prince told Jackson and him that he had not wanted to participate because "it would be a hit without (him)". In a 1996 interview with German TV, Prince also humorously said that the reason he didn't want to participate was the first line "Your butt is mine", and that he said to Jackson; "I ain't saying that to you... and you sure ain't saying that to me!" In his 1988 autobiography Moonwalk, Jackson wrote: "'Bad' is a song about the street. It's about this kid from a bad neighborhood who gets to go away to a private school. He comes back to the old neighborhood when he's on a break from school and the kids from the neighborhood start giving him trouble. He sings, 'I'm bad, you're bad, who's bad, who's the best?' He's saying when you're strong and good, then you're bad." In 2006, the single, as well as the video, was re-released as part of the Visionary - The Video Singles package. Bad Album: Bad is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Michael Jackson. It was released on August 31, 1987 by Epic/CBS Records, nearly ...

Beef DVD (full)

Beef is a 2003 film that documents the history of hip-hop feuds. The film's producers were Casey Suchan and Denis Henry Hennelly and the executive producer was Quincy Jones III (QD3). It was written by Peter Alton and Peter Spirer (who also directed), and was narrated by actor Ving Rhames. This film takes a chronological look at battles (some friendly, but many personal) dating back to rap music's infancy in the early 1980s. The notable rivalries discussed include KRS-One vs. MC Shan, Kool Moe Dee vs. Busy Bee, 50 Cent vs. Murder Inc., Tru Life vs. Mobb Deep, Common vs. Ice Cube & Westside Connection, the break-up of legendary group NWA, which includes Ice Cube's abrupt departure, and the later animosty between Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, the highly publicized Jay-Z vs. Nas rivalry and the most infamous feud of them all, 2Pac vs. The Notorious BIG. Many prominent hip-hop personalities such as Russell Simmons, Snoop Dogg, Kool Moe Dee, Jay-Z, KRS-One, Mack 10, DMX, and Ice-T also participate in the film through interviews (some done for the film, as well as archived interviews from other sources, such as MTV and BET clips). Beef also features newly-released performances by many musical artists. Subsequent releases in this series include Beef II (released 2004, also produced by Suchan and Hennelly, and narrated by actor Keith David), Beef 3 (released in 2005, narrated by DJ Kay Slay), and a BET series titled Beef: The Series, which premiered in 2006. These sequels are a ...

This is a blues jam that Larry did for my favorite website. A little taste of what kinds of things you can learn from his course. Larry is a master of Blues, Jazz, and fusion. He's played on some of your favorite Rock and Roll tracks too such as Steely Dan's, "Kid Charlemagne," He has shared studios and stages with the like of The Crusaders, Joni Mitchell, Sammy Davis Jr., Quincy Jones, John Lennon, Jerry Garcia, Michael Jackson, Stanley Clark, Billy Cobham, Bobby Bland, and many more. He also plays in the group Fouplay with Nathan East, Bob James, and Harvey Macon. I have taken these lessons and they really show you how to phrase well and make every note count.
