| The livestock do most of the work at Flint Ridge Vineyard. Our oxen harvest most of their own food, but when the winter grass is covered with snow they need some stored forage. Here are Momma and Stinker the Steer helping stack some of their winter ration. This winter they will deposit the digested hay back in the field where it came from, relieving us of the task of shovelling, hauling, and spreading manure from the barn, and closing our fertility cycle. Who knew that our clever animals could make our shovel, tractor, and manure spreader irrelevant, and save us some sweat? I whipped up the stacker with bits and pieces from around the farm, so pardon the shoddy craftsmanship, and the resulting blooper. Learn more about our work at www.flintridgevineyard.com |
