PART ONE - Sand Casting Process with Philip White and Jenny Dunseath in the foundry at Camberwell college of Art London. Video by Chris Follows part of the Process Arts Project - process.arts.ac.uk - University of the arts London: In this video: 1. Prepare a Pattern. This must be made of a smooth solid substance to withstand ramming, for example sealed wood or plaster. 2. To prepare the Mold: divide the flask (wooden box, made of 2 parts- (top) Cope and (bottom) Drag). Turn over the Drag Face down on a board. 3. Place the pattern in the upturned Drag. Ensure there is enough space around the pattern for Gating (room for runner and Sprue- pouring hole for the metal) 4. Dust with Parting Agent to prevent it sticking. (Parting agent is a hydrophobic material which repels moisture eg crushed limestone. 5. Use a fine riddle (large sieve) to just cover the pattern. 6. Use a Paddle to ram the sand, lightly at first to protect the pattern, and then harder to compress the sand. 7. Fill with sand, and ram it until full. Level off and smooth with a trowel. 8. Turn over the compressed Drag and the pattern will be immersed in sand. 9. Put the Cope on the Drag and bolt together 10. Repeat steps 4-7. Take care not to ram the sand too hard as to affect the Drag below. 11. Take Cope off and set it aside. You should be able to see an imprint of your Pattern. Depending on its location use your hole-cutter and cut a Sprue hole by placing your hand on the back of the Cope and push hole cutter ...

This is a video about how I make DIY rocks for my aquarium. Basically you use three ingredients: 3 parts crushed oyster shells, 1 part white portland cement #1-2, and 2 parts rock salt. Mix and mold. Cure the cement in cold water. Then to make it live, cycle it with a live rock from a friends aquarium of the local fish store. To make sure the rocks don't fall apart the water to cement ratio (weight ratio) should be about 1 part water, 2 parts cement. Too much water severely weakens the cement. Before putting the rock in an established tank, test the pH of the water the cement has been curing in to make sure that the rock won't raise the pH of your system. The pH of the curing water should have a salinity at of very near 0 (SG of 1), and the pH should be no higher than the pH of your tank, but preferably lower.

One recruit in particlar is a source of friction with Stryker, Peter Conway, whose father was Stryker's CO at Guadalcanal and who felt his son was too soft and cowardly to be a Marine. The squad grows more and more resentful at Stryker's increasingly brutal training regimen and his lack of sympathy for the varied personal problems of the recruits, but his determination to mold them into fighting men helps save their lives when the squad is landed at Tarawa in November 1943 and Stryker risks his life to blow up a Japanese bunker that has slaughtered Marines trapped at a log wall. The now battle-tested squad becomes more closely-knit and Stryker's relationship with the men warms as the squad eventually finds itself in the bloodiest island battle of the war, at Iwo Jima

Ever wondered how they have such cool effects in movies where glass is shattering? Well, typically these effects are based on household sugar. We make make our own crude homemade version with some common household ingredients. For this demonstration you will need the following items: 3 1/2 Cups of Sugar 2 Cups of Water 1 Cup of Corn Syrup 1/4 Tsp. of Cream of Tarter Candy Thermometer If we boil the mixture up to about 300 degrees F, we can then pour it into a mold and create an awesome shattering effect just like the movies.
