| This video was made on 3/21/2012. On the 43rd day of her hunger strike, Hana Shalabi was 'released' from administrative detention, marking the end of her strike. She was not allowed to return to her home and family in the West Bank, however. In a clandestine deal made between her lawyer and Israeli authorities, she was relocated to Gaza, where she is to remain for 3 years. Many former Palestinian administrative detainees who have been 'banished' to Gaza have never been allowed return to their places of origin in the West Bank. She will be unable to visit or be visited by family in the West Bank. Amnesty International called this relocation a 'forced deportation,' that some argue is in violation of the 4th Geneva Convention. Many commentators have suggested that this is not release, but rather another form of imprisonment. Israel's blockade on Gaza is so severe that many, including UN officials, refer to Gaza as an 'open air prison.' www.amnesty.org www.aljazeera.com electronicintifada.net www.thenational.ae chicagompr@gmail.com Song: Explosions in the Sky - First Breath After Coma |
