Structures of Memory

The film goes behind the scene to locate the multiple narratives and impulses that form the impetus for the public installation by the renowned artist Vivan Sundaram at the Victoria Memorial Museum in Calcutta in 1998. Titled 'Journey towards Freedom: Modern Bengal' the installation presents Bengal's history from mid 19th century under colonial rule to Independence in 1947. Mixing a number of diverse styles, some contrived and others real, and many kinds of voices, visuals, footage from cinema, excerpts from theatre, readings from poems, archival photographs, and music, the film resonates the diverse and complex shapes and spaces that the public art event had created. Brilliantly shot and edited, the film is directed by the artist himself and presents a window into the complex world of conceptualizing, creating and presenting a public art event.

Underwater Structure Thought To Be Over 14000 Years Old & Man-made

Massive rock structure hidden 60-100 feet underwater found in 1987 in Yonaguni, Japan. Experts call it the greatest discovery in the history of underwater archeology. Its massive size is equivelent to 2 football fields. Geological evidence shows that it was submerged during the meltdown of the last ice age which means it was built over 14000 years ago. Some of its peculiar details include: -Two closely spaced pillars which rise to within eight feet of the surface; -The "Loop Road", a 5 m (16 ft) wide ledge that encircles the base of the formation on three sides; -The "Totem", a stone column about 7 m (23 ft) tall; -The "Dividing Wall", a straight wall 10 m (33 ft) long; -The "Gosintai", an isolated boulder resting on a low platform; -The "Turtle", a low star-shaped platform; -The "Triangle Pool", a triangular depression with two large holes at its edge; -The "Stage", an L-shaped rock. For those who might be under the impression that the entire city's above-water: www.fusedcreations.com Video of one of the Penny Arcade community's servers! By now the Cult of Rapture server has made its rounds on the internet and gotten all of the attention it well and truly deserved. However, back when I first set the minecraft server up, most of us hadn't caught wind of it yet, so we set about making Rapture on our own. We were not trying to precisely duplicate Rapture. Given that the build server regularly hosts 30+ people, trying to precisely recreate a game that some might not have played didn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor. What we did, instead, was try and retain the flavor of Rapture, while still enjoying the process of making our own original creations. Obviously, this means we have structures that did not exist in the game - such as our giant Surface Recreation Dome, which is one of the main hubs of the city. With that said, we're still tremendously proud of our accomplishments so far, so we put this video together to celebrate our current progress. I just want to emphasize that all of the construction on the map is done by hand. Nothing was editor'd in. Admins and mods on the main build server do spawn blocks for people when needed, but only for things that can't otherwise by regularly attained such as ice blocks or lava. If they want any ...
