| As the situation between Gaza and Israel heats up, Israel has deployed a new mobile, anti-rocket defense system to intercept rockets launched into civilian populations. It has been two weeks of rocket fire and air force strikes between Gaza and Israel. Amidst rumors that Israel may launch a ground offensive into Gaza, leaders instead announced a counter measure. Israel has deployed Iron Dome missile defense -- a mobile system that uses radar and cameras to track and intercept incoming rockets with missiles. It's an Israeli-engineered device that, so far, has never been put to task. Israel Military Officer, said, "It is operational but it's just in the evaluation stages and under real life tests but this is the first time it will be evaluated and the results will be evaluated under real live conditions." This first Iron Dome system has been set up outside Beersheva, Israel's most populous southern city, hit numerous times by rockets. Several other defense batteries will be deployed in key locations during the week and while locals are wary of results, they say something is better than nothing. Beer Sheva Resident, said, We don't know whether or not these are going to protect us. But it's better than doing nothing I guess. We'll see how it goes. During the weekend Hamas called for a ceasefire with Israel. But within twenty four hours, Israel struck inside Gaza saying the targets were sites of intended rocket launches.
