Continued Nuclear Arms Race and Nuclear Testing at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Abby and Robbie Martin grew up in Pleasanton, CA, a city located ten miles from the Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL), a secret nuclear weapons production facility. They initially set out to explore the psychological impacts of taking nuclear testing into virtual space. But as their investigation unfolded, they found that the LLNL—in conjunction with Site 300—have built an impressive greenwashing PR campaign cloaking a dark reality. Despite a moratorium on nuclear testing, the nuclear arms race continues unabated at very high costs. In addition to the startling cases of LLL's mismanagement of dangerous materials and 'accidental' releases, the facilities are still testing every radioactive component of a nuclear bomb in open air, according to sources. Childhood cancer rates are six times higher for children born in Livermore; and the amount of radiation that has been expelled from the lab since its inception is equivalent to that released from the bombing of Hiroshima. Most disturbingly, the Livermore community is largely unaware of what the lab is actually doing and what its potential impacts are on their health and the environment. Power of Decision - 1958 Simulated Nuclear War Documentary by USAF

This film was produced by the United States Air Force in the late 1950's for internal training purposes however it has now been declassified. The film depicts a simulated war plan action, in the event of an attack, which was executed at the Operation Control Room, Offutt Air Force Vase, Nebraska, and at the underground control room (location still classified), by the Strategic Air Command. Footage includes pilots and ground crewmen scrambling; pilots boarding aircraft; B-47's, B-52's, and B-58's taxiing, taking off, maneuvering, and landing; and a KC-135 refueling a B-52. Also included are scenes of the launching of the Bull Goose, Rascal, Snark, and Thor missiles. The source files for this film were made available courtesy the National Security Archive at The George Washington University. The loading ceremony, at the plant in Tehran, was attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and filmed on state TV. Iran's deputy nuclear negotiator Ali Baqeri said the country had developed its own nuclear fuel because the West had refused to help them. There were also reports, on state TV, that Iran was starting to use new advanced centrifuges at a uranium enrichment site in Natanz. The centrifuges are made of carbon fibre, are domestically produced, and greatly speed up uranium enrichment activities, Iran said. The news came as Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of destabilising the world and called for its aggression to be halted.
