| The Asian Development Bank (ADB)-Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Knowledge Hub for Trade and Investment, in cooperation with Asia Society Philippine Foundation, Inc., the Knowledge Management Association of the Philippines, the University of Santo Tomas' College of Commerce and Business Administration, and the University of the Philippines' School of Economics featured the work of Dr. Jeffrey Williamson, Laird Bell Professor of Economics at Harvard University and former Chair of the Economics Department. Last March 15, 2011, Dr. Williamson conducted a lecture on, "Demographic Transitions, Accumulation, and Emigration." All countries go through demographic transitions during their industrial revolutions. Not only does the transition cause a rise followed by a decline in population growth, but it generates stages of small, big, and then small adult labor force shares. This has had implications for accumulation, capital inflows, growth and emigration. |
