Chinese Authorities Lose Control as Village Revolts

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt As we've been telling you this week, tens of thousands of villagers are protesting in Wukan, in Guangdong Province. Now the situation has become a standoff as villagers have kicked out both local officials and police. That came after the suspicious death of one villager in police custody. Here's the latest. The over twenty-thousand residents of the village of Wukan in south China's Guangdong Province have expelled all local Communist Party authorities, including police, and blocked road access to the village. The British newspaper The Telegraph was able to get a journalist on the ground in Wukan on Tuesday. Malcom Moore called the current incident the first time on record that the Party has "lost all control" in a situation of "open revolt." This marks the latest escalation in an ongoing confrontation between villagers and local Communist Party officials they've called corrupt and abusive. For three months, Wukan residents have been staging occasional large-scale protests against a longstanding series of abuses committed by local Party officials. The villagers' biggest grievance was corrupt officials profiting from illegally selling the villagers' land. The current intensified protest, including the expelling of all police and officials, came after the death in Party custody of Xue Jinbo. He was a Wukan resident who had served as a negotiator with authorities ...

Chinese Father Leaps Out Moving car to Save Child

Surveillance footage showed a father jumping out of a moving car to carry his daughter to safety seconds after she tumbled out of the vehicle at a busy intersection in China. Police in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, said the four-year-old girl had opened the door accidentally while climbing from the back of the car to the front. "I quickly went to take a look. It turned out that the child climbed from the back of the seat to the front while her father was driving, accidentally opened the door and fell out. When it happened, the taxi and all the other cars weren't going too fast, and the taxi braked immediately so it did not hit the child," said Wenzhou police officer Chen Shu. The father, without stopping the moving car, quickly leapt out of the same door to scoop her up off the road. The black car continued its course for about 10 metres before it hit a tree on the curb and came to a halt. Thankfully, the girl escaped the incident with only minor bruises.

Two Child Policy - China - July 2010

Under the strain of a rapidly-ageing population, China has eased its one-child policy. Yet a two-class system endures for the migrant workers whose children are not welcome in the city of Shanghai. Despite labour shortages and a rising demand for care for the elderly, many city couples say they won't be taking advantage of the two-child allowance: "raising one child is expensive enough". Meanwhile, the migrant nannies so common in Shanghai, pine for their children, forbidden from the city. According to the Family Planning Burea, "they're not our responsibility". ORF

Electronic Trash Village - China

September 2007 Every year, 35 million tonnes of electronic waste is exported to China to be scrapped. There the rubbish is broken down by hand, poisoning workers and polluting the environment. "Smoke from the computers is too strong to breathe", complains one disposal worker. "I feel dizzy and can't see any more". Many employees at the electronic disposal plant suffer from respiratory illness or skin diseases. They work for ten hours a day, with no protection from the hazardous chemicals.
