| Hop in my FedEx Feeder ATR 72 and fly IFR with me from Honolulu, Hawaii to Kahului, Hawaii. I went in to user-defined weather and set visibility low, precipitation high, and winds high. I basically made a tropical storm. Takeoff goes as normal. I just had to wait for a Hawaiian 717 to takeoff on a crossing runway. Took off, and started heading east towards Maui. Approaching Maui, I needed to select an approach to runway 20. The only IFR approach would be a VOR/NDB approach. I thought about it, but since I have never done that approach before, I didn't want this to be my first time. I am generally not used to landing on any runway besides 02 because runway 02 is the most commonly used. Using that, I selected the ILS approach into RWY 02, circle around, and land on RWY 20. This kind of got disrupted when another Hawaiian 717 took off from runway 20, heading directly towards me. As you can see in the video, I disengaged the AP before seeing the runway so I could avoid a head-on collision. I managed to get the airport in sight and enter the downwind leg just as the 717 takes off, triggering the TCAS that there was a traffic alert. Unfortunately, I was cleared for a ... |
