The 17-85 gets a mixed press but having used one for over 12 months I think its great. Images are colourful, quite sharp and the zoom range is really useful. Of course the TEST KNOBS out there are never happy with zooms such as the 17-85 - but I wonder do they ever take pictures of more than test charts??? Good video- thanks for posting.

Definitely it is. For the price- decent image quality far superior to the 18-55 is a must have.

Oh, I get your message. You can get this lens, but beware of the images not so being sharp. You can get the 15-85. From my experience it really is quite sharp (but vignettes a lot w/o peripheral illumination correction).

No, it's an EF-S lens designed only for cameras designed to take EF-S lenses. The 5D Mark 2 does not take EF-S lenses.

I agree with Gordon. I have the 15-85 and the 55-250 IS II myself and they complement each other pretty well. The 15-85 is really sharp at nearly all apertures and the 55-250 zooms really, really far. The 55-250 IS II has a max aperture of f/4 at 55mm, and is fairly sharp wide open at 250mm (from my experience). Get one or the other, you'll be pleased. If you need big-time reach, go for these lenses: 18-200 18-135 Or if you want a lens (not so) similar to the 15-85, get this one.
